https://theweek.com/articles/816867/how-lose-shutdown-showdownSmall-government Republicans have long insisted that federal workers do very little that's essential — that most are paper-pushers collecting larded up paychecks and absurdly generous benefits in return for loyalty to the Democratic Party (through both votes for Democratic candidates and union dues that reliably end up lining party coffers). Focusing on the suffering of these employees during the shutdown, however humane it might be, tacitly confirms this narrative by making it look like the primary concern of the Democratic Party is the plight of federal workers rather than the good of the country as a whole. That's politically perilous for Democrats.
It would be far smarter for Democrats to focus on the important, and often essential, work these employees do. They aren't just mindless cogs in an impersonal, gargantuan machine spreading irritating regulations and pointless red tape as part of a political racket. They're doing the vitally important work of managing numerous aspects of our endlessly complex modern lives, providing essential services to tens of millions, and protecting ordinary Americans from a wide array of risks and hazards.
When the government does this vital work, we all benefit. When the work goes undone, we all suffer.

This is of course correct, but then again the Democrats have long proven that they can bungle anything.... competence is not their thing.
The Dems are doing just fine, so far most people blame Trump for this shutdown. The only ones really blaming the dems are his base.
This is not about who is to blame for the shut down, this is about whether the Washington D's care about the right things.....it is about the quality of their judgment.

If you’re more concerned with who people blame for the problem than solving it then you are the problem.

If Trump wanted to solve the problem, there are better ways to do that cost less and are more efficient as I laid out above. Trump only wants the wall because he touted it and that "Mexico would pay for it" for over 2.5 years. Not because it's the best, cost efficient and most effective option which it is nowhere near.
This is only about politics not a demonstrable need for the same barrier extension Democrats advocated for 5 years ago.

"It's Trump's fault" has pretty much lost it's sting, when Trump is blamed for everything under the sun.
Oh it's clear Trump doesn't care about the right things. If he wanted to REALLY combat illegal immigration he would have been pushing for E-Verify to be mandated and employers to get heavy crushing fines for violations. The Dems are right that Trump manufactured a "fake" crisis and they are right in fighting this. So yeah, it DOES matter who is to blame and the people will hold Trump and the Republicans accountable for it in 2020. You better get used to that REAL quick.

The Dems did not agree upon the same length or cost that Trump wants. Not sure why you are lying at this point.
In this case it is true. McConnell won't even bring to the floor a vote on a bill TRUMP doesn't approve of and TRUMP only wants a wall because he touted it for 2.5 years and said Mexico will pay for it. This is what is called, holding an elected official accountable for their words and actions. I know it must be foreign to you, but tough ****. This is Trump's shutdown and even the majority of American people are seeing it that way. Republicans are shooting their own foot and 2020 is around the corner.
Where as Trump has shown his concern for the important work those people do by shutting down the govt
More like McConnell is blowing Trump so he does not get primaried when he runs for re-election in 2020
They're not doing just fine in the polls.
Anywhere from 31% to 35% blame congressional Democrats.
The majority do blame Trump though possibly because he admitted he owns it?

The Democrats introduced and advocated for the passage of a bill that granted $4.5 billion to DHS for the express purpose of implementing border control strategy including barrier extension plus an additional $1.5 billion to be allocated specifically for the purpose of barrier extension in the Tucson, Rio Grande and Laredo sectors. So why are you lying?
I say if that is the hill they choose to die on, let them. When the nation is flooded with unskilled, hard working, hungry, no baggage Latino workers, we are at the same time switching over to more and more automation because the American workforce is too expensive.
Then when the democrats give amnesty to the 25 million or so new citizens, they will be chronically unemployed and on social services because the need for low skill workers will be hard working, hungry, baggage carrying American's pushed out of factories by automation.
I will be too old to GAF by then.

Yeah and those 31% to 35% are Trump's base. They will blame Dems for anything. The majority DO blame Trump because this shutdown is on him.
Wrong. Recent polls say Americans blame Democrat by a margin of 31-35%.
