There seems to be a trend.

A Democrat hadn't won that district for a while (when Obama was in office).

"Drey won with 55% of the vote to Republican Christopher Prosch's 44%

...

That means Republicans will need support from at least one Democratic senator to confirm Reynolds' nominees to state agencies, boards and commissions in the final year of her term."

Crucially, that means Gov. Kim Reynolds will no longer be able to rely solely on the support of fellow Republicans to confirm her picks for judgeships and state cabinet posts, since nominees must be confirmed by two-thirds of the Senate.
Per OP's article.

Looks like people in this country who have been duped are finally waking up. There is hope to overcome fascism.

Iowa under Trump: Democrats 2, Republicans 0

The second state seat to be flipped this year.

So much for hat dying Democratic party....no wonder Trump is so scared

This part is very interesting...

...this is the second Iowa state senate district they have flipped this year, after a January victory in a district Trump won by more than 20 percentage points.

Democrats have consistently overperformed in special legislative elections across the country, including winning another Trump-friendly seat in the state senate in Pennsylvania in March.
