Decision by Russia to deploy nuclear bombers to Cuba?

What do you think about russia's decision to deploy nuclear bombers to Cuba in response to an american "Missile Shield" in eastern Europe ?

I think those rusty old bombers wouldn't get off the ground before we blew them to smitherenes.

Hmmm..a missile shield, which is based on defense versus nuclear bombers, which is based on aggression. Perhaps Russia should try to be more sincere to the situation and offer Cuba a missile shield? Of course, we would also have to see where Cuba actually matters to Russia/Soviet Union.

This is merely more of the same garbage we saw decades ago when the Soviet Union was too busy pretending to power. Anything Cuba has can and would be intercepted over the ocean long before it touched Florida. But does this mean we want to spend time monitoring them with so much of the rest of the world to watch already?

Bah anyway...I don't think their bombers are a threat...they could deploy their Tu-95, which are old and probably very vulnerable against US F-15/F-18

Or they could also deploy their supersonic bombers (Tu-22 and Tu-160 I think) but they are extremely expensive and need huge taxiways that can be easily destroyed by US bombers (and that would be astonishing that Russia deploys its most modern bombers so close to Florida)

Yeah ... it's called the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Now Russia is playing the same card ... although ... this time we do not have JFK to diffuse the situation.

I don't think Russian nuclear bombers (or missiles for that matter) should be allowed in Cuba. After all, Cuba is only 96 miles from the United States (if I'm not mistaken). The United States would have no time in which to warn the American public of any nuke launch from Cuba (sort of the same as if nukes were fired from a submarine offshore of the US coast).

As was posted earlier, placing nuclear bombers in Cuba is an entirely provocative measure, which will only serve to bring back old Cold War fears. The United States should invoke the Monroe Doctrine here...by declaring the placement of nukes and nuke bombers in Cuba as a potential attack upon the Western Hemisphere.

If needed, perhaps the United States should drop a few Daisy Cutter bombs on the military airports in Cuba, destroying the abilities of landing those bombers. I'd call it a pre-emptive strike to ensure American and Western Hemispheric defense.

Why does it matter? The Russians have countermeasures of their ICBMs that can easily defeat the joke that is NMD. We can't even stop one of their missiles if launched from Russia.

Neither the missiles in Cuba or the missiles in Poland would do anything to effect MAD. Each country is still more than capable of obliterating the world if they want. If we were sane rational people we would just ignore this because it has no effect at all. However, because both Russian and U.S. leaders are a bunch of moronic egomaniacs who thrive on keeping the populace scared, we are going down the same path that risked nuclear again. The Cuban missiles crisis was probably the most dangerous situation that the world has ever faced. I'd be comfortable living with nuclear bombers in Cuba if we didn't start down nuclear brinksmanship again.

Are you serious? Current missile defense is a joke. Against a foe with the nuclear capacity of Russia, it's either 100% effective or 0% effective, and it sure as hell ain't 100% effective.

What is sickening is your willingness to pull the "you hate America" card just because his position differs from yours (which is in no way grounded in reality)
