http://www.ajc.com/metro/content/me..._gaza.html?cxntlid=homepage_tab_newstab&imw=YA boat carrying international peace activists, including former Georgia congresswoman Cynthia McKinney, and medical supplies to the embattled Gaza Strip sailed back into a Lebanese port on Tuesday after being turned back and damaged by the Israeli navy, organizers of the trip said.
The crowds on the docks in the Lebanese port city of Tyre were jubilant and cheering as they welcomed the vessel.
The boat, which set off from Cyprus Monday wanted to make a statement and deliver medical supplies to embattled Gaza. The trip’s organizers said the boat was clearly in international waters, 90 miles off the coast of Gaza, at the time of its close encounter with the Israeli navy.
“Our boat was rammed three times, twice in the front and one on the side,” McKinney told CNN Tuesday morning. “Our mission was a peaceful mission. Our mission was thwarted by the aggressiveness of the Israeli military.”
The ex-congresswoman and long-time activist for the Palestinians was among a group of individuals turned back after their boat tried to enter Israeli waters in an attempt to land in Gaza to distribute medical supplies.
Green Party presidential candidate Cynthia McKinney, unimpeded by the "closed military zone" imposed by Israel, was among 16 people aboard a medical supply boat that collided with an Israeli naval ship Tuesday as it tried to enter coastal waters around Gaza.
The yacht, owned by the U.S.-based Free Gaza Movement, was reportedly carrying 3.5 tons of medical supplies donated by Cyprus. A press release from the group claimed "several Israeli gunboats intercepted the Dignity she was heading on a mission of mercy to Gaza." They said the Israeli military fired machine guns into the water in an attempt to stop the Dignity's progress.
The boat, registered under the flag of Gibraltar and with an English captain, reportedly took on water and experienced engine problems, according to the group's Web site. It also said the incident occurred 90 miles offshore in international water. The boat's captain was given permission to dock in Lebanon, where it was regrouping to try again.
Israel's foreign ministry spokesman Yigal Palmor told Reuters that an Israeli vessel and the 60-foot Free Gaza Movement boat did make "physical contact," but only after the aid boat failed to respond to radio contact. He denied any gunfire had occurred, and he said no one was hurt in the incident. He told Reuters the Israeli ship escorted the damaged boat back to Cypriot territorial waters.
. . .. Sets my entire gender back decades. A total embarrassment to women everywhere.
Naw, it just reminds us that women have a full intellectual spectrum. I do notice though, that in our culture it appears to me that stupid men are better tolerated by other men than stupid women by other women.
Because most men laugh about stupid stuff. Most women are just critical.Naw, it just reminds us that women have a full intellectual spectrum. I do notice though, that in our culture it appears to me that stupid men are better tolerated by other men than stupid women by other women.

No you dumb ****** your boat was rammed for trying to break the blockade. Too bad they didn't do us all a favor and just sink it with you on board. Bringing supplies to terrorist and getting stopped... imagine that.

--It probably pissed her off that the Israeli navy didn't recognize her either... certainly it couldn't be that the Israeli navy wasn't going to let an unauthorized ship that refused to respond to radio contact and could be carrying weapons and explosives break the blockade in the middle of a shooting war... could it?
What a ditz. Sets my entire gender back decades. A total embarrassment to women everywhere.
She wasn't the sole passenger so it's not just about one American and we haven't seen anything about radio logs yet. We're not living in the time of the US Liberty and if there were radio calls they will be much easier to verify.
The boat had also made 6 previous trips through with medical supplies and doctors on board.
Prove it. (extra letters required.)

She got her diploma at the Cindy Sheehan School of Political Science.
Excuse me? Cindy Sheehan exudes intelligence. Cynthia McKinney, however, does not.
While I think Cindy Sheehan is wacky, I will forever be grateful that she started speaking out against the War in Iraq. Bravo, Cindy! Bravo!
Instead of typing in the extra letters you could elaborate on what you actually want me to prove..
here's a list of options for you
- McKinney is American
- that Cynthia MCKinney was or wasn't the only person on board the ship
- that the ship was rammed at the blockade
- that the ship has made 6 other trips
- that there were or weren't any radio transmissions
- that the USS Liberty was falsely attacked
Or do you have another request I prove for you? :2wave:

:shock:
She is a loon and neither of you seem to understand the war in Iraq was necessary.

I'd like to see you prove #6.
Yes. I'd like a linkable website that proves they (a) responded to radio contact by the Israeli navy;
(b) they submitted to inspection by the Israeli navy to prove they weren't carrying contreband weapons or explosives;
(c) that they had authorization to breach the blockade during a shooting war.
(d) that they responded to radio contact demanding that they submit to inspection and authorization.
-- Cynthia McKinney is a certifiable fruitcake. The entire incident was created to fabricate an "incident" that would garner headlines --
You forget or deliberately misread what I said earlier... we haven't seen anything about radio logs yet.
You're asking me otherwise to prove something I haven't said. :lol:
I have no verifiable evidence to say that was the case - it's still a current incident and as I said before the boat has done 6 other mercy trips before. It may be that this one has been publicised because an important US citizen was on board. When she wasn't there before nothing happened.
Oops. :3oops: Sorry about that.
-- The (CNN, I think) article I read stated that this trip had not been authorized, the boat refused to respond to repeated radio contact, refused to alter course when directed by bullhorn to do so... and it was stopped. I mean, they're in the middle of a shooting war right now. No boat should expect to be allowed unauthorized, uninspected access to a blockaded port in a war zone. That would be ludicrous.
--Of course my statement that the incident was forced so McKinney could get publicity was opinion, not fact.
--But I still think I'm right... :mrgreen:
I tried finding the CNN article via GOOGLE and instead found other interesting articles relating to this.
Apparently there was a CNN reporter aboard the ship named Karl Penhaul (strange that there were no CNN Reporters on board any of the other 6 trips...[/quote}
Yes... yes, it is. Makes one wonder who contacted CNN to follow the exploits of this particular boat, does it not?
[quote)Anyway - if you google Penhaul + Dignity (the ship's name) you will find blogs referring to the fact the CNN reporter confirms there was no radio contact and that the ship was rammed deliberately. You will also find blogs saying that Karl Penhaul has (by association with ****hia McKinney) discredited himself and is falsifying facts and that there was radio contact which the Dignity ignored.
Here's my Google Search
YouTube - Gaza Aid Boat Activists give their version on the israeli vessel
Karl Penhaul video on Youtube - note that at the beginning it does say they are prepared to "run the blockade" so yes they knew what they were doing - however until we see the call logs and check if the Dignity either ignored radio calls or turned their radio off we can only go by guesswork and the video reports.
