  • Some vaccines in development may require two doses while at least one vaccine may only require one dose to be effective
  • Vaccines will be available based on the prioritization schedule set by the government
  • The vaccine will be no cost to you through your insurance or a government program for the uninsured
=====================================================================
I'm in the first group to be vaccinated after the old folks home residents, first responders, doctors, nurses & many thousands of others. I'll be lucky to get my shots by March.

ME, TOO. I emailed my governor's office yesterday with a slew of questions about how this works (no answer yet). Do I call my doctor to get a script for one, or does the doctor call me? Where do I go to find out when it is available to me and when/ where?
Maine just had it's second shipment of vaccine cut by 40% with no explanation from Operation Warp Speed. Our CDC Director said other states' shipments have also been cut, but when he called Pfizer, they said they've got plenty in the warehouse but no shipping instructions for more vaccine.

We've had to delay beginning vaccinations in nursing homes because of it.

Operation Warp Speed seems to have hit a wrinkle in time.

This is what happens when you ask the military to handle a new program: SNAFU.

But they have UNIFORMS!! They have to be the best!
This just hit the news yesterday. Maybe they'll straighten it out.

I emailed my doctor asking vaccine questions and immediately received a generic response. Basically they don't know.

Is the timetable of the rollout based currently on just the two vaccines or will things speed up once more of the other vaccines hit the market? Also, I would imagine there will be plenty of people in all groups not willing to get the vaccine. I'd think that would move people up in line.

I hope to get the Moderna vaccine because it will have a much lower chance of having spoiled in transit & distribution.

I figured that. That's why I went to the gov. I don't have tv, but there will be a site up somewhere that tells us when it's time and what to do.

CVS is pretty well organized. Since they have my data (DOB etc) I expect to get either an email or a call to make a reservation for vaccination. They will have to control the number of people crowding into their store.

According to the CDC, only 3% of the healthcare workers immunized so far have gotten sick enough to notice. From what I was reading earlier, we were all going to be in bed for two days. So far, it's not sounding as bad as I feared.

How will they know we are in the high risk group?

I wanna know what constitutes "high risk"? Will there be different levels of heart disease or diabetes? I was diagnosed with diabetes a couple years ago. Since then I have lowered my A1C to 5.7 which is the lower part of pre diabetes. Would I still be considered in the high risk group? I'm afraid to get my A1C checked again in January because I fear that my numbers will be even better but I'll be pushed to the back of the line for the vaccine.

Since they don't know your medical history, they would have to go by age.

I already have trouble breathing because of COPD. It's hell wearing a mask, sometimes I have to slip it under my nose so I don't faint. I assume I'm in the high risk category. I just need to know how that information gets to the people giving the vaccine.

i'm not worried about transport. they'll dry ice it, and it will be fine. i deal with stuff that has to be shipped ultra frozen quite often. i would have liked to have been in the CVS vaccine storage meetings. i would have had a few ideas that i posted in another thread. however, it's going to move so fast that simple refrigeration will probably be fine on arrival. that's my guess.

My spoilage concern with the Pfizer vaccine may be one of the reasons why Fauci got the Moderna.

I would think that primary doctors would be responsible for identifying "high risk" folks based on guidelines created by the CDC.

Call your drug store (CVS or Walgreen) & talk to the pharmacist.

Depending on your doctor to be in sync with the pharmacies sounds risky. I'd call them.

I just called Walgreens to refill a script and the first thing was a recorded announcement saying they are giving the shots, but they do not have information on who can be inoculated. If you are a healthcare or nursing home employee, it says call your employer. So it looks like the doc will need to be involved somehow, give a permission slip.

they are probably trying to split it to build confidence in both. i've noticed that they did that with other treatments, too.

The same goes for me, but my wife was vaccinated yesterday with the moderna vaccine.

I have also wondered about this. I also was diagnosed a few years ago with an A1C over 11. It is now down around 5.8 with diet alone. I haven't taken insulin or metformin in couple years.

Great job of getting your numbers down!
