The sudden and mysterious deaths of generals while communist Cuba is rocked by massive protests might be seen as a coincidence, but under communism, there are no coincidences. The purge continues.

In an official announcement from the Ministry of Armed Forces (MINFAR) broadcast on Radio Reloj during the evening of July 24, the death of Ruben Martinez Puente, the general commanding the reserve forces, was announced.

His cadaver will be cremated and his ashes will rest in a family grave on a date yet to be announced according to the official announcement, which did not provide the date or the cause of death.

The apparent purge of military leadership by the communist Castro dictatorship is now getting ridiculous. A sixth high-ranking military official in Cuba — in a span of just 10 days — has suddenly died.

The sixth in ten days: Cuban military official Gilberto Antonio Cardero Sanchez dies

State-run television on Wednesday announced the death of “Rebel Army combatant” Gilberto Antonio Cardero Sanchez. He is the sixth military official in Cuba to die since the peaceful protests that started on July 11. The other five were generals.

“His body was cremated and his ashes were placed at the veterans pantheon at the Colon Necropolis, where they will remain until they are transferred to the Frank Pais Second Eastern Front mausoleum in Santiago de Cuba,” said regime reporter Froilan Arencibia, reading an announcement from the Revolutionary Armed Forces (MINFAR).

The announcement by MINFAR did not specify Cardero Sanchez’s rank and neither did it give a cause of death or his age. State-run television did not broadcast any images of the deceased official.

The MINFAR specifies that his body was cremated immediately after his death, the same procedure used after the deaths of the five previous militaries. Those who are still alive must be very scare since they don’t know who would be next in the regime list.

We know who was next on the list, reserve Colonel Santiago Lorenzo Hernández died August 11, no cause of death given. Canadians use a common sense approach. The US embargo has been in place for over 50 years, has it prompted political change, nope. When something does not achieve a goal you step back, and reexamine.

This policy has failed. But due to enormous political pressure from the Cuban American voters and lobbiest the embargo remains. Both Dems and Republicans fight for Dade County, Floridas electoral votes take precedence over common sense. It's the American way.

I tend to agree with that thought. Mass protest did make a difference in the Arab Spring and the end of Marcos in the Philippines. But overall a mass protest must be overwhelming and have clear political goals to succeed. Most important the protest must be peaceful for a variety of reasons to achieve their goals.

Reserve Brigadier General Jesús Rey Soberón passed away on Friday night, October 15, due to COVID-19.

14ymedio, Havana , 15 February 2022 — Colonel Erasmo Méndez Fernández, head of the Guantánamo military region, died this Tuesday in a car crash in Baire, Santiago de Cuba.

The soldier collided head-on with his car, a Geely with license plate F001617, with a bus from the state tourist agency Transgaviota, when he was overtaking at the height of the elevated bridge at the entrance to the municipality of Santiago.

According to witnesses who reported on social networks, the Operational Investigative Guard appeared at the scene to clarify the circumstances of the incident, as well as Government and Party authorities in the municipality of Contramaestre.

The Guantánamo military region was created in 2000 as part of the restructuring of the Armed Forces in Cuba. Previously, Méndez had been the head of the Las Tunas military region and, before that, of the Border Brigade, which guards the border perimeter with the territory where the US naval base in Guantánamo is located.

Cuban Brigadier General Rafael Moracén Limonta who was part of Fidel Castro’s guerrilla in the Sierra Maestra and directed military missions from Havana in Angola and Syria, passed away on Friday on the Island.
