I'm guessing there are many people in the state of Texas and California who are not grieving the "timely" death of convicted Enron CEO Ken Lay today. Lay was the poster boy for all that's wrong with the Energy Industry and their best buds, George W. Bush & Dick Cheney.

How much you want to bet that Bush & Cheney pretend they barely knew the guy? FYI - Lay was on Bush's transition team as an Energy Expert, participated in the still secret Energy Meetings held by Cheney at the start of the Bush Cabal. Lay was a nasty, nasty man who bilked billions of dollars from his EMPLOYEES and STOCKHOLDERS and was directly responsible for the "rolling blackouts" in California in 2001 & 2002.

I guess it's safe to say that Ken Lay is LOOKING UP at ALL OF US now...if you catch my drift? :fueltofir

Amazingly he never spent a day in jail!

Enron Founder Dies Before Sentencing

By JEREMY W. PETERS and SIMON ROMERO
Published: July 5, 2006 - NY Times

Kenneth L. Lay, the former chairman and chief executive of Enron who was convicted of fraud and conspiracy in the giant energy company's collapse, died today at his home in Aspen, Colo. He was 64.

A spokeswoman for the Lay family, Kelly L. Kimberly, confirmed reports of Mr. Lay's death but declined to discuss specifics. In a prepared statement, Ms. Kimberly said: "Ken Lay passed away early this morning in Aspen. The Lays have a very large family with whom they need to communicate. And out of respect for the family, we will release further details at a later time."

Mr. Lay was convicted in May on six counts of fraud and conspiracy and four counts of bank fraud, and was free on a $5 million bond while awaiting his sentencing, which was scheduled for this fall.

Each count carried a maximum sentence of 5 to 10 years, so he faced the possibility of spending the rest of his life in prison.

I sincerely wonder if 'Kenny-boy' died of natural causes.

Why now?

What does President Bush know about Ken Lay's 'death'

Pssst, just kidding! :2razz:

I can't wait to read the Republican apoligists in this forum defending Bush on this one....hell they might even defend Lay!

I am so disappointed over this death. I read an article this morning that says (1) it is likely that Lay will get his conviction overturned, as it is common for a defendant to get his/her conviction thrown out if they die during the appeal process and (2) it is unlikely that prosecutors will be able to seize his assets.

*sigh* I don't want to think that his family will get to reap the benefits of his stealing from his employees. It sickens me.

Don't think he really stole anything. He was just guilty of not running the company well, and hoping there would be a turn around in the market. Nobody cared when Enron was flying high, but they had to have a skapegoat, and he and Skilling were it.

Rent "The Smartest Guys In The Room", and see if you still feel the same way.

Kenny Boy was a total scum bag, may he rot in hell.

With all due respect I disagree, strongly. This guy ruined thousands of peoples lives not just for today but forever. The lame excuse that he had no idea what was happening at the company he ran and at the company that he was collecting enormous salaries from is absurd.

He is one of the rottenest Americans of the last decade at the very least.

Is he dead? Or did he spend some of his 'ill-gotten-booty' on a stand-in & is now off to a millionaires' new life somewhere?

1) Kenny Boy's family was about to go broke from all the lawsuits.

2) If you are dead, the lawsuits go away (most of them, at least).

3) If Kenny Boy quits taking his heart medication, he dies, and it is not reported as a suicide.

Put it all together, and I think there is a good chance that Kenny Boy committed suicide by not taking his medicine. That way, his family does not go broke, and he also does not have to face himself in prison. If this is what happened, then one of the biggest con men in American history has had the last laugh.

Actually, I was going to say at the very least, we can all agree on one thing, oh well.:(
