Flip The 37: Say "No" To A Trump Presidency

^^^^^ This is the list of GOP Electors.

The Electoral College meets on December 19th to vote for President.

They can vote for any candidate they like. They can still choose a different person for President, other than Donald Trump.

I urge you all to contact the GOP Electors in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, Florida, and urge them to vote for another Republican, preferably John Kasich or Jeb Bush, as they are sane men, calm under pressure, able to handle stress in difficult times. Unlike Trump, who is a loose cannon who simply doesn't have the temperment to be President.

If you do contact these people, please be polite, civil, and courteous.

NO.

That is as much of an undermining of the system as whinny demands to eliminate the Electoral College immediately and use the popular vote results for the current election instead.

I keep seeing this "Clinton got a majority of the popular vote" combined with "she would have won without the electoral college" argument. Let's see if we can debunk this position right now...

You don't work to change the results of a properly held election, you work to change the system so that your ideals can be reflected in future elections.

Or, you work to insure someone else is elected President next time, meanwhile becoming more active locally to encourage the election of Senator's and Representatives that you feel best represent you in Congress.

But if you want to see the start of a real dissolution of our nation into a multiplicity of balkanized, warring mini-states, keep pushing this "he's not my President" agenda to a successful conclusion.

I have contacted 3 Electors in PA.

Please take some time to contact some Electors.

we have several weeks to do this.

Its a longshot, but if even 20 Electors flip, it will send a huge message to Trump, that we are very worried and not happy with him, his agenda, and his direction.

Did you forget the country you live in?

Here the people get a voice....they have spoken

If you don't like who they voted for, make sure you get more involved next time

Make sure you get more people involved....but to try to overturn the results because you find them distasteful is just wrong

We have a process....it was completed, and the election is over

Get on with your life, and on to other important matters....be it financial, family, or career

The election results chose the electors. That part is done.

"The system" now requires those electors to convene and choose the President. This is where the OP is hoping to exert influence.

That sums it up. But I suspect that the destabilisation is at least partially due to malicious intent and not the result of sensible democratic competition.

It is their Constitutional duty, their Patriotic duty, to pick a different candidate, if they believe Trump doesn't have the judgement, the temperment, the honesty, the integrity, to lead our country.

Right. By "lobbying" those electors to change the will of the electorate they were appointed to represent in their various States.

Isn't that a clear undermining of the "democratic process" via special interest lobbying we rail against when it happens at any level of government?

I see, it is their patriotic duty to see things the way you do. Riiiight.

The will of the electorate is expressed in the choice of electors. As long as the right slate of electors in each state gets to vote in December (and it will), the will of the people under our system is satisfied. Regardless of which candidate the electors choose.

If that sounds like a dumb system, that's because it is.

If they truly feel Trump has the integrity, honesty, judgement, temperment, to be President, than they should vote for him.

But if they believe he lacks these qualities, and is a danger to our republic, they should vote for someone else.

Its Constitutionally appropriate and their duty to do so.

Thanks for the list. I will be contacting the electors in my state and telling them they better not even think about not voting for Trump.

Depends on the state whether the electors are free agents or not. Some states have a law binding their electors to vote for whomever won their state. My state of Georgia does not. But in Georgia the each candidate that qualifies for the Georgia ballot must submit their own slate of electors. In other words, Trump submitted his to our secretary of state, Clinton hers and Johnson his. Trump won Georgia, so it is his slate of electors that will cast their votes on the 19th. Now I had the honor of being one of Ross Perot's electors in Georgia back in 1996. If he had won Georgia, I would have cast my one electoral vote for him.

I would think if other states choose their electors the same way Georgia does it would be mighty hard to get any of them to change their vote. The candidates or their staff make sure only trusted personnel will be an elector among that candidates slate. But keep in mind, different states have different ways of choosing the electors and different states have different laws or no laws that either bind those electors or not.

To whom do we send money promote this effort?

No money is requested or required.

I am asking folks to contact Electors to not vote for Trump, if they feel he is not qualified to be our leader.

Threatening Electors is not a good idea. I suggest you get such a thought out of your head.

And anyways, the vote is secret, so when Trump gets less than 290 Electoral votes, we will have no idea who flipped.

Furthermore, if Trump is reduced to 269 electoral votes, the Presidency gets decided in the House of Representatives.

Not quite. The electors are being contested, it would appear. That is not as trivial as you would have it seem.

The original intent was for them was to exercise independent judgment and select the best candidate. The idea that the EC should act as some sort of pseudo-popular vote aggregator was a later innovation.

Incorrect.

The Electors are not being contested, at least not by this movement.

We are asking the GOP Electors who have been chosen, to reconsider voting for Trump, as we believe he is too dangerous and erratic to lead our country.

The Electoral College has the authority and even duty to overturn the Popular vote, precisely because of candidates like Donald Trump.

Their job is not to simply and blindly follow the will of the people of their state.

Their job, is to make an educated decision, as to whether the President-elect is qualified for the job.

And if they believe he is not, they are obliged to pick someone else.

Its too bad such a scenario didn't play out in Germany 1933.

Nowhere have I implied any threat. Merely going to let the electors know, in no uncertain terms how this citizen feels.
