Indicative of how aligned Parliament is in dealing with America's economic and territorial ambitions the likely interim Conservative leader is backing Carney as he takes on the threat.

After a fractious federal election campaign focused on perceived Liberal failures, the Conservative House leader is now signalling the caucus may be willing to support some of Prime Minister Mark Carney's legislative agenda when the House of Commons returns later this month.

In an interview with CBC News, Andrew Scheer, who is considered by party sources to be the front-runner to serve as their interim parliamentary leader, said the Conservatives could back Carney if he needs legislative support to take on U.S. President Donald Trump and the ongoing trade war, which has already caused some economic dislocation, including automotive job losses at the General Motors plant in Oshawa, Ont.

"We're going to support measures that protect the Canadian economy and that help to ultimately get a deal. We wish Mr. Carney well and we're rooting for a good deal for Canada," Scheer said. "And when we're dealing with such a major threat to our economy, it's important that comes first and foremost, regardless of partisan differences."

It's a smart move which is likely to also be the NDP strategy. Any party that opposes the government at this point would feel the wrath of an electorate very united against the US.

It's how it should be; working together for the good of the people. Here in the U.S. it appears to be my team vs the other team; politics seems to have become a sport here.

Nothing unites a country like another country declaring war. And when the official US policy became making Canada a state, well, suddenly Canadians are all on the same page.

There in the US the policy is to make Canada a state. The USA has said they're the enemy of Canada.
Yeah, Canadians will unite against that!

This weekend on Face The Nation Trump again pushed for 51st state saying the US would "probably" not need to use military force.

That shit is not well received up here.

MAGA does not care about Trump's lies, or his alienating our allies, or his profiting from the office, or his blatantly unconstitutional executive orders. They couldn't care less.

The only thing that will turn them is when Trump hits them in the pocketbook. They'll react to losing jobs and money. They'll pay attention to rising inflation. We'll see how it goes.

They'll buy his explanations that it's still Biden's fault.

To be clear, it's Trumps "policy"; we all know that Canada will never become a U.S. state.
We do, but the President of the United States says it's American policy.

Trump's stated policy is to use tariffs to destroy our economy to the point we become a "non viable" country so have no choice but assimilation.

Not only is the 51st state the US government policy, it's in fact in progress.

We'd be fools to not believe Trump means what he says. And we're not fools. The MAGAs who tell us 'he's just trolling' have already shown themselves to be fools just by being MAGAs.

It is both ironic, contradictory, and self-defeating for the Trump administration's to be constant rooting for far-right populist parties in other countries because each of those "nationalist" parties' supposed goal is to make sure their country come's first...meaning for their nation that they should see nothing wrong in allying with China or Russia against US interests when advantagious. What "America Firster's" in the Trump mold don't seem to get is that fanning nationalism and turning Candian, German, French, Japanese, India, South Americans into their own "firsters" isn't complimentary to the US, but oppositional to whatever whack-a-doodle policies Trump economically or militarily imposes on other nations.

There is no such thing as "International nationalism" as a unifying ideology. And we now see it in Canada, their right wing either shows they are true Canadian firster nationalists or puppets. It appears that they know that.

Looks like Malaysia firsters don't agree with US firsters - not surprising and just as I predicted. From RUETERS:

"Malaysia PM says ASEAN-China free-trade deal to be finalized soon"

That's nice, but given the Liberal/NDP coalition we really don't need the Conservatives to 'help' along the legislative process, which would likely mean poisoning it in favour of the rich and against the working class; it's always a Faustian bargain with them.
