More accusations of plagiarism this time Columbia's DEI Chief is under fire. He is accused of lifting 2 pages near-verbatim

Not only are some given an opportunity others are not, they abuse the gift to offset their lack of qualifications.

The chief diversity, equity, and inclusion officer of Columbia University's medical school, Alade McKen, plagiarized extensively in his doctoral dissertation, lifting entire pages of material, without attribution, from sources that include Wikipedia, according to a complaint submitted to the university on Wednesday.

The allegations implicate approximately a fifth of McKen's 163-page dissertation, "'UBUNTU' I am because we are: A case study examining the experiences of an African-centered Rites of Passage program within a community-based organization," submitted to Iowa State University's School of Education in 2021. More than two of those pages are a near-verbatim facsimile of Wikipedia's entry on "Afrocentric education," which is not cited anywhere in the dissertation.

That's hilarious and this article perfectly illustrates why degrees are worthless. There is lots anti plagiarism software that professors normally use to catch stuff like this. I'm guessing this person was graded on a very generous curve and they just let this slide too.

Did you look at what they are claiming is plagiarism?

It's not.

it isn't remotely verbatim as the OP claims.

Not to excuse myself, but I was shocked at how careless I was when writing a paper (a few years ago) containing a lifted quote which I forget to properly attribute to the author. I received a low grade for that offering and was written up for plagiarism.
Writers who repeatedly fail to cite an author when using someone's writing are really careless and foolish.
Turnitin anti-plagiarism software does work and if you don't use it (or its equivalent) then you are inviting trouble.

It happens but considering the bs position he received, I don't think they cared if actually deserved his PhD or not. Employers have access to anti plagiarism software too. They can check out an applicants published work to make sure they're qualified for the position.

I suspect it's a lot more common than people realize.

Even Neri Oxman, wife of Bill Ackman, who went after Harvard President Claudine Gay for plagiarism, has admitted to it.

DEI is one of the biggest scams ever. Making up ridiculous positions all for the sake of making money they dont deserve.

And there are still futile attempts to defend DEI in those institutions desperate to retain such ridiculous and flawed concepts favoring skin color over meritocratic accomplishments.

Did the Invisible Hand of the Free Market™ create DEI?

Or was it a government regulation somewhere?

That'd be a double loss, one where DEI promotes the unqualified to high positions they don't deserve to highly likely poor performance, and two, where the more qualified candidates are lost.

Let's not pretend that this position in a healthcare setting benign, that position is nothing more than to shovel CRT and DEI racism onto the next crop of doctors. Doctors who are, without a doubt, chosen with DEI objectives and goals in mind, overshadowing meritocratic and qualifications in a field, healthcare, where people's lives are directly affected; in a field where only meritocratic accomplishments should only be considered, not heritage nor melanin content of the person's skin.

Agreed. The racism that is DEI must DIE.

Why would the 'Free market' create DEI?
The free market relies and meritorious results.
If you produce and are needed you survive and thrive.
If you exist to be supported by a socialist government, you are a drag on society. When has it been different?

A social agenda scam that is finally, albeit slowly, heading towards the dustbin where it belongs.
Can't come quick enough.

Does 'heading towards the dustbin' include rooting it out of all the places that it managed to embed itself? Government, schools, business, and especially Hollyweird?

If so, that's going to take some concerted effort, for one, and for another may not be as thoroughly excised, like the social cancer that it is, as needed.

Nope, a lot of VCs like Blackrock are in on it. Theyre pushing this woke agenda and are denying funding to those orgs that resist.

This being forced by the Biden admin's regulatory edicts:

GOP Rep. Vows to Block Biden from Weaponizing Treasury to Unleash ESG
Craig Bannister, September 22nd, 2023
“The House Financial Services Committee will hold the Administration accountable for its continued efforts to force their political priorities through our financial system,” Chairman Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-NC) vowed Tuesday, reacting to the Treasury Department’s release of nine “principles” for financial institutions to follow.
“With Treasury’s most recent guidance, the Biden Administration is again prioritizing its progressive climate agenda over sound economic management,” Chairman McHenry said in a statement, warning that, while Treasury claims its standards are “voluntary,” institutions will be punished if they don’t comply:
“Regulators should be focused on immediate risks to our financial system—not climate policy beyond their expertise and statutory authority.
‘With only a thin veil of setting ‘voluntary standards,’ these so-called principles will almost surely be enforced as though they are laws by unelected federal regulators and Treasury officials who continue to overreach.”
“It’s clear Treasury’s intention is to direct credit to politically favored activities in order to appease far-left climate activists,” Chairman McHenry said, promising that his committee “will hold the Administration accountable” for using the Treasury Department to coerce compliance with its political goals.
Indeed, Treasury’s nine “principles” encourage financial institutions to invest in, and provide credit to, companies that comply with radical leftist Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) ideology - while shunning those (such as producer of traditional energy) that don’t:
. . .
The Treasury Department's advice tells financial institutions to “reallocate financing, investment, and advisory services away from clients and portfolio companies that over time act in ways inconsistent with a financial institution’s commitment and transition plan. In those cases, such reallocation can reduce a financial institution’s exposure to companies facing high transition risk.”

Prioritizing "radical leftist Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) ideology" over sound financial management are seriously bad prioritization decisions.
