Why you should upgrade your mask as the Omicron variant spreads
(CNN)As the highly contagious Omicron coronavirus variant continues to spread, some experts say it's past time to reconsider your face mask options -- especially if you're still wearing the cloth variety.
"Cloth masks are little more than facial decorations. There's no place for them in light of Omicron," said CNN Medical Analyst Dr. Leana Wen, an emergency physician and visiting professor of health policy and management at the George Washington University Milken Institute School of Public Health, on CNN Newsroom Tuesday.
"This is what scientists and public health officials have been saying for months, many months, in fact," Wen added in a separate phone interview.

Let this quote settle in: "Cloth masks are little more than facial decorations."

Yet here in Oregon, we're required by law to wear face decorations. LOL - "We follow the science!" - Liberals
 
If ever evolving science (the horror!) bears Dr. Wen's assertions out, then fine.

I've no doubt heads on the right will explode and refuse to wear surgical grade masks the same way they do cloth masks.

Because freeberty.
 
All the masks I've ever worn are of the medical type. That's because, when the pandemic first hit, I was helping to care for two elderly relatives, so I had a ton of the masks on hand. The catch is that you're not supposed to reuse them, but I've often broken that rule--mostly because some medical experts said it was okay to do that sometimes.

I used a N95 mask when flying, but the airlines made me wear a cloth mask over top of it because it had one of those vents.

I wonder if their requirement was science based?

Masks with vents don't protect others from your expelled droplets. You shouldn't have used them.

Because there was a shortage, and they wanted the N95 masks available for first responders and healthcare workers.

So they then sold a false billow goods claiming that cloth masks were better than nothing. It turns out they're not better than nothing.

In fact, they're face decorations.

They can even get right wingers to wear masks...requiring them only to wear a certain grade would fail miserably, and would be unenforceable. Lots of people would have to be looking at masks and making judgements on quality, it would be a ****ing disaster.

As Allan said, anyone who "follows the science" already knew cloth masks were not sufficient.

This "gotcha" bullshit like the OP is so stupid it hurts. I hope we never face a more serious biological threat in my lifetime...such fools.

I have no idea why anyone would wear less than a KN95 mask. They are cheap, sort of comfortable, and fairly effective. Even the surgical disposable masks aren't as effective. N95s are better of course, but to get the most out of them you have to be properly fitted for them, and thats real pain in the ass.
