It's OK. It's perfectly understandable. The lure was strong. He really seemed like a breath of fresh air in our stale politics.
He seemed like the perfect response to Barack Obama. The left had a popular hero. The right needed one, too.
He pissed off the left, so the urge to support him was irresistible. (Even if not well-researched.)
It really seemed OK at first. He appeared to be a very successful businessman, and a popular entertainer with a definitive attitude. A doer and a motivator who got things done and made the difficult decisions.
That was then. This is now.
Nobody really knew how Donald was going to perform in office. It has been ghastly. He has embarrassed us and reached out to the worst people in our society. He let us down. And he has not self-financed his campaigns like he said he would. We have been asked to give and give and give! And for what? To pay lawyers??? Supporters have been forced to side with extremists, haters, xenophobes, liars, racists, criminals, fools and idiots.
They say to err is human and we learn from our mistakes.
Donald was a huge mistake. The right thing to do at this point is simply recognize the mistake, learn from it and move on. Give up on him.
That's the best stress-relieving move. So what if Democrats win. It's not so bad. We know the media over-hypes how 'bad' Democrats are. We already survived 4 years of Joe Biden. The economy really is getting better. We can survive another 4 years. Abandoning Donald now means not having to worry about regretting making the same mistake twice and feeling guilty about it later on. They really only want to tax the rich. The rest of us are fine. And immigrants actually do help the economy and pay into Social Security.
It would be really bad to continue to support him while others are giving up on him, see him lose the election, and then get sent to prison. Very regrettable.
The only want to ensure that won't happen is to just give up on him now. That is perfectly OK. And it is entirely possible that many people will be very understanding and welcome such a choice with forgiveness.
Maybe the thing to do is just sit this election out. After all, what does one vote matter, anyway. elections come and go. Regrets stick.
A good life awaits those who clear their conscience.
