Dr David Betz, an (American) professor in the War Studies department at King’s College, London, believes that civil war in this country is now inevitable, even if we haven’t taken this on board. Professor Betz does have an argument, and parts of it seem to me irrefutable. The three factors that he identified as leading up to civil strife in any country studied were ethnic replacement, the State’s loss of legitimacy, and “polar factionalism”. That’s not the order that he put them in. No one who is Reform UK-adjacent wants to hear that racist motives are uppermost on their agenda, but, without the fury supplied by ethnic resentment, the other motives would be insufficient for the kind of widespread slaughter that he foresees.

I'm curious to hear the thoughts of our UK members on this topic and how they might correlate with what we're seeing in the US today.

(1) Ha ha ha yeah right the British are far too f*cking lazy to get off their lardy British *rses and get into anything resembling an actual 'civil war' though if it's aimless cocaine-fuelled hooligan delinquency you want, we're the boys.

(2) Judging from the blurb above, substitute ethnic replacement with refugees from a nuclear war in Africa and that's just a rehash of Christopher Priest's novel Fugue for a Darkening Island, first published in 1972.

I think the US will be before the UK.
I don't know about that one. The political ruling class has just totally given the finger to all of the people and said we like the third world better than you and then get to have everything

In some ways the problem both the UK and the US have is that their basic fptp electoral systems facilitate a two-party political system, exaggerated in the US by the effective impossibility of regional/nationalist parties. Spain's more representatively elected Congress has the wonderfully named 'Teruel Exists!' party.

@Perotista can probably do the details better than me, but rather like how in the Scottish football league the two eternally fervently and religiously opposed rival teams of Celtic and Rangers occasionally egregiously collude in order to ensure their duopoly isn't ever threatened so spooked by the third party menace Ross Perot posed in the 90's that Reps and Dems were all too happy to connive to weight the scales even further in their own favour.

It's just a shame that taken in the round Musky boy is no Ross Perot.

Nonsense.
Agreed . If your want to find a nutcase seek no further than your nearest university, where they swarm like flies on a hot summer's day.

(For the info of the OP author I'm English as well as Swedish).-

:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

This kind of bollocks is for his American audience at one of those right wing think-tanks that is funding the cultural wars happening in America.

Same in Washington, so they had to call in the National Guard. If you so much as peeped out the door, you'll be mugged, its soooooo bad.

Thank God Humpty arrived in the nick of time, ey?

If it happens it will be between Yorkshire and Lancashire. Wait, why does this sound familiar?

Complete nonsense.

Well lets be fair here.. Some Germans have some kinky sexual tendencies, so there should be some who actually like being beaten up by "muslim immigrants" and then having a swinger orgy..... Just saying!

The only 2 scenarios I can see a "civil war" is if Reform UK wins a majority and starts to dismantle basic liberties.

A Reform UK win, would almost instantly mean Scotland would leave, with or without permission. Wales might also be out the door, and even Northern Ireland. How Reform would handle this, would be a huge determinant on if there was a civil war.

A bunch of Americans! You will be lucky if you run into anyone whose Germany extends beyond Saving Private Ryan

The womb that spawned Oliver Cromwell must have been retired after his birth. England was such fun then. I wish they had cell phones! Its not often a King loses his head

I think it had something to do with a rose.

A plague on both the roses, sayeth the commoner. Some roses. Bloody roses. What matter what we call them? A rose by any other name was still jugs of blood and gore! A plague on both Houses

Explains why Elon Musk and JD Vance can make comments about Germany that only certain sections of America believes.

If Civil War breaks out in the West, what's the path back to peace? Per Dr. Betz, civil wars tend to last a long time. Around 10 years on average. So what is the path back to peace? Who are the sides fighting given it won't be just right vs. left.

A Very British Civil War sounds like an old table top set of miniature wargame rules which I read once a decade or more ago. The reality is unlikely however. Incidentally civil wars have been very common in the British Iles over the years from pre-Roman times, through the Anarchy (Stephen and Matilda), The Uprisings (2) of the Barons until The Wars of the Three Kingdoms (The English Civil War's greater context). I don't think the UK is on the verge of the Wars of Three Factions or Grievances in the foreseeable future..

Cheers and be well.

Vance is currently experiencing Britain's freedom of speech first hand. The latest reports have him being woken at 6am by bagpipe playing protesters.

The more silly anti-Vance pieces I read in the press the more my hitherto very frosty opinion of him is showing signs of a thaw.
