Civil rights leader removed from movie theater for using his own chair

He chose to post he was going around Rules lawyering service sector employees about his dog.
as is so often the situation, you failed to understand what was being presented
the DAV with a service dog attempted to inform the ignorant party who sought confirmation the DAV's animal was in fact a legitimate service dog
one which was not obligated by law to wear an indicator, the ignorant party insisted had to be worn
no surprise, you adopted the position of the person who opted to remain ignorant of the rules, and then misconveyed the circumstance

Lots of emotional trauma to be had from this. If this were some stupid bubba we wouldn't have this conversation, would we?
Key to this is as follows. Don't get hung up on key phrases like Black and civil rights. Look at it from a human perspective. Just communicate, talk, work it out. No one is special, we are just that, human beings.

I really don’t even care what the “rules” are. The fact the rules don’t require official government documentation to be supplied on demand is yet another reason ADA needs to go

it's NOT about you. fortunately

You have to explain what function your dog is trained to do.
Not to every Tom, Dick and anonymous poster. The civil servant I interacted with that day never bothered to ask the question and remained fixated on the vest issue, thus showing his ignorance of the ADA, much like you are doing. Unlike yourself, he was man enough to call me the next day and apologize.

Thank you for this, @butterfly. You are always a kind voice. I have followed the Reverend Barber's work for years. He is a gentle man who works for the less fortunate, a kind man with a really good heart. It makes me very sad that this happened to him.
From the OP's article, and I love this:

Barber is now a professor at Yale Divinity School. He said Friday that he tells his students they must care about people.

“There’s no way to follow Jesus without learning to pay attention to whoever is broken and vulnerable in society,” Barber said. “Because that’s where God shows up.”

It is sad for me to see a conservative write against the ADA. The conservatives I know have been supportive. Now that we are older, some of them have needs that a protected by the ADA. I had no idea that there was an anti-ADA philosophy among conservatives. I wonder if it isn't conservatives but Trump followers who are the anti-ADA people.
I am not, as a conservative, aware of any anti-ADA bias. I do remember and very well when the ADA was signed into law (and the resentment of some local business owners who already struggled with very limited parking) and actually was reamed out during an important safety committee meeting when I dared to point out that a new building's plan, while in compliance with the letter of the law, was absolutely not compliant with the spirit of the law. (For those interested, there were buildings that had elevators but no inside stairwells, and the outside stairs pooled water at the landings. What do you do when the elevator doesn't work and you're in a chair on the second or third floor? How do you get out?!)

I found an article by Smithsonian Magazine that notes, "Issues of representation for all people with disabilities—and particularly people of color—are now more a part of the conversation than ever."

The article also discusses airline challenges. Only a week or so ago I read about another disgraceful episode, but here is one that many will remember (I hope): https://www.medicaldaily.com/disabl...eclining-help-him-enter-and-exit-plane-249191
