Cindy McCain
Oscar de la Renta dress: $3,000
Chanel J12 White Ceramic Watch: $4,500
Three-carat diamond earrings: $280,000
Four-strand pearl necklace: $11,000–$25,000
Shoes, designer unknown: $600
Total: Between $299,100 and $313,100

Yea yea, sexist and so on.. but men don't go around in an outfit that costs as much as a house in some places.

What were her handlers thinking lol, when her husband is trying to paint the other side as a elitists...

I'm sorry, but if someone on the right made a post like this about Obama or even his wife (and I honestly can't think of a single person who would, as absurd as some of the anti-Obama attacks have been) people (you included most likely) would have been all over them about how absurd such an attack would be. I think that if we are going to criticize people we should stick to legitimate issues and not what their fashion choices are.

If Obama's wife had worn a $300,000 outfit or something 1/10th that cost, there would have been 10 threads on it in this BB.

But I have to agree that this shows sincerity in the Republican party. McCain is for cutting taxes for the rich even more, and Cindy showing off the benefits of that policy demonstrates admirable consistent.

Take a look at the bottom of that article:

All prices except Laura’s shoes and Cindy’s watch are estimates, and the jewelry prices are based on the assumption that the pieces are real.)

:rofl

Hell no. If Obama's wife had 300k on her person in dress and jewellery, then I would have been there in a heartbeat to criticize her, because she is suppose to be courting the poor and middle class of America.

Having an outfit that is worth more than a huge majority of Americans earn in a year is frankly disgusting, and especially disgusting if your husband or you are running for the top office of the country.

I personally think that there are far bigger issues to focus on in this election than how expensive someone's outfit was based on an article from Vanity Fair magazine that shows an estimated cost.

Could be, though with her assets $300k in jewelry would not be surprising in the least. Wearing gaudy fake jewlery would kind of be a faux pas, would it not?

Is anyone voting for or against Cindy McCain? Nope. I will vote for or against John McCain, for or against Barack Obama, for or against Bob Barr, their spouses are irrelevent.

Being the next first lady: priceless.

I know one thing. I saw Cindy at the RNC on TV. She looked good. But my wife can look just as good and she shops at Kohls and Walmart. :rofl

I do wonder, however, is it really necessary, in some people's mind, to spend thousands and thousands of dollars on shoes, clothes, dresses, etc in order for them to feel like they look good? I see it all the time on the red carpet.

To me, that's just decadance (sp?) Why do they waste so much money? Because they can? That is so out of touch with my reality.

BUT.... if I had a zillion bucks, I probably wouldn't ask what something cost's either.

Perhaps that is why I still buy lottery tickets. Hoping.

Cindy is filthy rich. Be fair, that's probably her lowest cost non-elitist formal outfit.

I think some of us get it wrong too.
The impression republicans like to make is paradoxical to some of the reasonable democracts, but that's precisely the point. They appear honestly to want to project the image that they are rich, wealthy, powerful, and do NOT play by the rules. Including boldly ridiculing someone for their behavior, while simulatneously engaging in the same exact behavior. That displays balls to their constituency which wins them points, and unethical behavior to their opponents. Hence, two parties.

If she can afford it, I fail to see the problem.

Cindy is a blue blood. Why would anybody doubt that she can wear an getup worth more then some houses?

I agree fully, but its still bad taste and stupid to do something like this. You just know that it will be noticed, and it basicly means McCain can be ridiculed by the Dems if he continues his "elitest" crusade against Obama. Obama went to Yale or Harvard.. wupti do, your wife wears stuff that's worth more than 95% of Americans earn in a year and you cant remember how many houses you own.

As for the "estimated" prices.. again so what. 3 carat diamonds do not come cheap for one. You can look up on the web what the price could be, but as we do not know what type of diamond and what the cut is and so on, then its hard to estimate. However saying that, I doubt very much she wears the cheap low quality stuff.

You can stick to what you deem are legitimate issues.

Pete--I agree. Frankly, I think it's UNCLASSY for her to be doing that. When I do presentations and have had interviews, I always tone down my jewelry and what I wear.

I wasn't aware Cindy McCain was doing a presentation or an interview.

I thought the same thing only I thought of moose meat. Eheehehe.

You don't buy moose meat, you have to go out and get your hands dirty to bag one. most left wingers fail to grasp this do it yourself concept.

The government won't supply you with one. :2wave:

Thanks, I will.

I don't think she's above criticism for wearing an expensive outfit. However, I don't think that it is that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things with the countless important issues that are going on in our country and internationally. I sincerely hope that you would agree with that at least.

She is a beer baroness, why should she feel guilty of her success. Jealousy is an ugly thing aps.

Yes, I agree! In fact, it's rather disappointing to think that Sarah Palin's speech was all about attacking than discussing ANY important issue going on in our country right now.
