The chairwoman of the U.S. Senate Intelligence Committee today accused the CIA of inappropriately searching the committee's computers as the panel investigated the CIA's detention and interrogation program.

Speaking on the Senate floor, Sen. Dianne Feinstein said CIA Director John Brennan told her in January that agency personnel searched the computers because of a belief that the panel might have had access to an internal review of the matter.

"The CIA did not ask the committee or its staff if the committee had access to the internal review or how we obtained it. Instead, the CIA just went and searched the committee's computer," she said. "... I have grave concerns that the CIA search may have ... violated the separation of powers principles embodied in the United States Constitution."

Hypocrite bitching about violating the Constitution! :lamo How about you and the 2nd Amendment, bitch? Nevertheless I agree with her on this one point.

Maybe she can scream them to death. Or kill them from fright when she takes off her makeup.

Sure I will, because everyone knows I believe strongly in the Constitution.

But everyone knows you hate Dianne Fienstein even more.

Come on Moot: "what difference does it make"

Some one send her out to dinner with hilda - no one died her computers were hacked. Really 'what difference does it make"

Now that I think about it....where does the Senate Intelligence Committee's intel come from, if not the CIA?

Behind The Fight: Why The Senate and CIA Are Feuding

A political firestorm erupted in Washington on Tuesday when a key lawmaker took to the Senate floor to accuse the nation’s top spy agency of possibly breaking the law and violating the U.S. Constitution.

On one side, the Democratic chairwoman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, who alleges that the CIA has been spying on her panel. On the other, CIA Director John Brennan, who insists that the agency didn’t snoop or attempt to intimidate the committee.

There’s been a lot of back-and-forth over her accusations. Here’s a look at what’s behind this brouhaha and what happens next.

What’s at the root of this battle?

Starting in 2009, the Intelligence Committee began a three-year investigation of the Bush-era CIA program (2002 to 2006) which used harsh or “enhanced” techniques, or, as some have charged, torture, for interrogating al-Qaida terrorist suspects.

"Let me say up front that I come to the Senate floor reluctantly. Since January 15, 2014, when I was informed of the CIA search of this committee’s network, I've been trying to resolve this dispute in a discreet and respectful way. I have not commented in response to media requests for additional information on this matter; however, the increasing amount of inaccurate information circulating now cannot be allowed to stand unanswered." (Feinstein)

In other words, she felt that the spies were leaking false information to nail her and her staffers. So she was upping the ante by taking this dispute out of the shadows.

Fascinating that the CIA may have been pressuring her to back off by smearing her. Wow. That has problematic implications for which I cannot see any solutions.

And, I agree with those who say she's a hypocrite. Does she NOT GET that domestic spying has repercussions beyond the intended purpose???

Feinstein is such a hypocrite, and very much a traitor to the American people.

She calls Snowden a criminal traitor for exposing the crimes committed by government of which she approves, yet cries like a little girl when her own congressional ox is gored.

All the worst, for Ms Feinstein.

Feinstein didn't provide any evidence to substantiate her claim.

No one else on the committee is making such claims.

If there was covert meddling and violation of the constitution, then why isn't she demanding an investigation instead of an apology from the CIA?

Why has the investigation into CIA torture, etc. taken......five years??

Why did she go public....now?

Is this a personal thing between her and Brenner?

Feinstein is a hypocrite to think she can support the CIA rendition and torture and then when it becomes public, change her tune.

Meh, she's getting old.

I'm not inclined to believe that NBC News can provide any insight at all. Yes, it can and does routinely provide propaganda favorable to the government, but that's about it.

I fail to see any problem with this report. Was all in all pretty unbiased and voiced both sides opinions..

Humor to hear complaining of being in the same boat that they built.

You're probably right. I am very cynical these days, and it seems the whole affair--CIA and Senate--is nothing but political theater.

In truth the government has violated, continues to violate, both the letter and spirit of the Fourth Amendment, and refuses to stop that violation. Instead it offers this theater, and no change at all.
