Congressional Democrats are zeroing in on health care as a key sticking point in negotiations with the threat of a government shutdown looming.
Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer and House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries, both of New York, have said that they will not support GOP-backed legislation to keep the government funded unless it includes certain health-care provisions, setting up a bitter policy fight with GOP lawmakers that could trigger a shutdown.

Comment:
How many times has Chuck Schumer tried to shut down the government and blame it on the Republicans?
He does this on almost every spending bill.
People are tired of his games.

So close to making this a nonpartisan issue and yet so far.

The only thing the Democrats should demand is a vote authorizing Trump's tariffs.

While I've considered Chuck Schumer useless for long enough now, the political truth is each side will weaponize the rhetoric headed towards a government shutdown and if one happens then all we see after is another round of weaponization.

If Democrats in the Senate want to use healthcare as the reason for this round, then all it does is throw to the voter how they feel about this issue.

Given how much Republicans have gone after healthcare, gone after rural healthcare, it may not be as good for Republicans as the OP arrogantly assumes.

Shut it down for a couple of weeks forcing Republicans to go to the mat for higher healthcare costs. And after the inevitable Democratic capitulation, rub those increased costs in Republican noses until next November.

Only Democrats could **** up the political gift Republicans are handing them.

The hospital in my mom's rural town discontinued maternity care and delivery services. People have to drive at least 45 minutes to have a baby now. I am told it's a financial decision.
Something has to be done.

Maybe Republicans will pay more attention to Senator Lindsey Graham (R/SC) and Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (R/PA) who threaten to shut government down unless their “Sanctioning Russia Act of 2025” is tacked on to the spending CR.

Both claim fellow Congresscritters will join their demand. Trump refuses to act against Russia and China and they are tired of waiting. Trump has postponed any action 7 times now with "2 week" sabbaticals to "think about it".

Yea, I agree. It time for the Democrats to stop playing nice, or playing by the rules, and go for the jugular. (Pun intended)

At this point, I don't think there are too many Democrat voters who want or expect the politicians they voted for to take the high ground.

It's time to fight fire with fire, but I doubt they have the stomach for it.

The Democrats are going to hurt a lot of people if they shut down spending.

We've got a long way to go before something is done, and I'd bet the ranch that when something is done it will make the situation worse.

  • Congressional Democrats are demanding that legislation include an extension of the Affordable Care Act tax credits, which are set to expire after 2025.
  • Republicans, however, appear unlikely to budge on the Democratic lawmakers' requests.

OMFG, Republicans are even bigger idiots than democrats sometimes. Do these moron republicans want to be voted out?

The GOP is going to hurt a lot of people if they don't agree to the Dems' terms that they avert unnecessary premium spikes, coverage losses, and hospital closures.

This is another Chuck Schumer shut down

Indeed, to avert the Trump premium spikes, Trump health care losses, and Trump hospital closures.
This Is what is going to happen when Chuck Schumer shuts down the government.

When the federal government shuts down, many services and programs are halted, federal employees may be furloughed, and essential services continue to operate, but with potential delays.

Key Impacts of a Government Shutdown

  1. Furloughs and Employee Status:
  1. Service Disruptions:
  1. Economic Consequences:

MAGA is forcing higher prices in all sectors, and their War on Medicine needs to be countered.

Then it’s certainly not in anyone’s interest for the GOP to force a shutdown because they insist, as always, on taking away Americans’ health care.

Since this is politics the only thing that matters is which side will get the blame. If Schumer shuts the government down, then joe voter might blame the dems for the above. But the smart move would be for republicans to just give him what he wants.
