Christians always pick and choose which parts of the "religion" they wish to follow according to the situation and how it best suits them.

Trump is example A. Pedophilia should be a slam dunk wrong.
 
Much of American Christianity, especially among Evangelicals and Christian Nationalists, is more about worshiping social power, culture, money, and control then it is about Jesus. In a lot of those churches, Jesus is a secondary consideration.
