It's not every day that an American labor union gets investigated for possible ties to two of the world's most lethal terrorist organizations. But Chicago's Service Employees International Union Local 73 isn't an everyday union. Last September 24, FBI agents raided residences in Illinois, Minnesota and Michigan of more than a dozen radical activists in an effort to connect them to the Hamas (Gaza and the West Bank) and FARC (Colombia) guerrilla movements. Two of the occupants were SEIU Local 73 chief steward and executive board member Joe Iosbaker and former local board member-steward Tom Burke. Neither they nor anyone else has been arrested. But as the case unfolds, questions have arisen over the extent of involvement, if any, by the Chicago-based radical network that nurtured President Obama's political ambitions from the Nineties onward.

The FBI's investigation is being vocally opposed by a website called "Stop FBI Supression." Statements of Solidarity | Committee to Stop FBI Repression

This stopfbi link just above takes you to a solidarity page. Have a look at the organizations that have sent letters of support to this organization. Among others: Local 300 of the AFLCIO; U of I Local 6297; UEA Duluth; SEIU Illinois; Chicago Teachers' Union -- and that just through the 2nd of nine pages of support.

Here's a short excerpt from the letter of support written by the CTU:

Therefore be it resolved, that the Chicago Teachers Union supports the following demands:
1. Stop using the national security laws to intimidate people from using their 1st amendment rights.
2. Immediately return all confiscated materials: computers, cell phones, papers, documents, personal belongings, etc.
3. End the Grand Jury proceedings and FBI raids against trade union, anti-war and international solidarity activists

And be it further resolved, that the Chicago Teachers Union participate in the ongoing movement to defend our civil rights and civil liberties from FBI infringement; forward this resolution to the Illinois Federation of Teachers

I thought about posting this in the Conspiracy Forum...but it's the FBI. Does anyone know what the heck's going on?

I'll bet you dollars to doughnuts that this particular FBI investigation will go absolutely nowhere thanks to Mr. Holder. This is the DOJ that picks and chooses what and whom they investigate.

Does anyone know what the heck's going on?

It looks like the FBI is investigating crime and building a case against criminals.

That' usually what the FBI does, when it's not barbequeing Americans at Waco.

So the FBI isn't perfect, but, given the quality of the people protesting this investigation, it's pretty clear that the FBI is probably doing good this time.

I agree. This case will be dumped. These fall into the category of "my people" for Eric Holder and President Obama. The ABSCAM case was the best thing the FBI ever did and one might wonder why they didn't repeat. It's not like Congress is less corrupt now. Oh, wait, Congress funds the FBI and told them they damn well better not do it again.
