Australia and Canada are going to cooperate in building an over-the-horizon radar detection and tracking system for the Canadian Arctic Let's call it the "Dingo Line" in honour of our Aussie friends.

In your eye Donito Trompollini.

Cheers and be well,

Interesting and probably good for them both.

Does Australia have particular expertise in this space? I am genuinely asking, I don’t actually know.

Phoenix2020:

I believe that only Australia and the USSR/Russia developed this kind of over-the-horizon detection and tracking radar systems but I could be wrong. My knowledge of the systems is dated to the years of the late Cold War and soon after so is thirty years out of date. If you look up the Jindalee Operational Radar Network (JORN) operated by the RAAF, then you can probably learn more than I remember. I do know that the project is an ever developing one and has gone through many stages of improvement since the mid 1970s and that since its last upgrade which began in 2018 or 2019 (?) is so state of the art that the US Government wanted to buy it. But we Canadians got there first it seems.

Aussie! Aussie! Aussie!

This is a good thing.

I'm glad that Carney is willing to have Canada take responsibility for their own protection, instead of relying on the US to do it for them like we have for so long. It's about time y'all spend YOUR money (as little as it is) instead of expecting the US to spend our money on your protection.

I love how the Americans were talking about buying it but Canada actually did. I’d love it more if Canada decided that the information was theirs and not NORAD since Trump considers them an enemy.
