Could you please tell all of us how you managed to sleep through the terrible Wall Street disasters of this past decade?
Nobody here is asking for utopia, but we would like a gurantee that the govt will weed out the crooks so our money that we invest, and Wall Street "manages" for us, is safe from fraudulent practices. We have several govt agencies well staffed with coffee drinkers, porn viewers, game players, but apparently not well staffed with forensic accountants eager to put white collar criminals in prison. How did that terrible Wall Street disaster hurt you and your family? There are no guarantees in life except in the liberal utopian world yet for some reason when people get to that utopian world promised, they find debt, disaster, and abuses of taxpayer dollars. what is the liberal answer? Throw more money at the problem?

The market will take care of greedy entreprenuers but in your world there are no consequences for failure. If that individual invests their own money and chooses to be greedy they will fail. Where does personal responsibility rest in your world?

i thought the market could police itself?
Amazing how smart you are because obviously that didn't affect you. It didn't affect me either because I transferred my holdings into cash in 2008. I learned a long time ago personal responsibility. Seems that more and more don't understand that concept
I have no interesting in providing you with the benefits of you keeping more of your own money and the failures of liberal social spending startign with the Great Society. You believe it was a success? So tell me how many trillions have been spent to eradicate poverty? In 1965 there were 175 million Americans and a Federal Budget of 250 billion. Today there ar 308 million Americans and a budget of 3.6 trillion dollars. I can see how all that social spending has worked.
We transferred in 2007, then spent a lot of it building our retirement house. Withdrawals from my IRA and 401K triggered some horrendous tax bills, but at least we didn't lose it in the market, and we aren't paying interest on a mortgage.
But guess what many market gurus were saying in 2007? Were they warning the small investor? No, they were not....

It is more about spreading the wealth so incomes are more equal. Yes. There still could be stratification of incomes but not to the ludicrous degree that that are in today's out of control "system".
2 facts hardly make a theory....
What exactly is fair or right about taking one person's money to give to another just to make their incomes equal?
This country is about equal opportunity not economic justice, or whatever un-American term you want to put on it.
Equal opportunity, not equal outcomes.
The only thing out of control is some of the ludicrous ideas people have about what is yours is not really yours if you have more than I do. Then some of yours is actually mine so we can have equal stuff.
That was the idea with the banks, but it didn't work so well...
btw, if sailing is like sex to these people, they are doing it wrong.....
We took several hits, starting with the Enron era, then the dotcom era, but luckily missed the current one....
My wife is a retired teacher, and many of her teacher friends had/have educated professionals as spouses. Those who were involved with finance didn't seem to be any better prepared than the rest of us. When the fertilizer hit the ventilator, they got splattered.
I may have been poorly educated/employed compared to them, but I am also paranoid about money. Turns out that a bit of paranoia is healthy when it comes to finances...

agree, equal outcomes are impossible.....but, You don't want economic justice? Equal opportunity is the foundation of economic justice....

I agree totally. Now let's get back on the subject I was talking about. Those who are "smart" and don't work hard, while they let their employees do the hard work, should have income taken from them (notice I didn't refer to it as "their"), because they have simply manipulated money and people to enrich themselves, at the expense of everyone else in the society, who, unlike these lazy smart aleks, have been working hard, including the employees of these rich business owners.
This also improves the work ethic, by getting money (reward) into the pockets of those who actually worked for it (while their big boss was out on his fishing boat or the golf course). Get it ?
Too much faith is put into the Federal Govt and not enough at the state level. There was a reason our forefathers supported a small central govt. as they wanted the power closest to the people. That is contrary to the liberal ideology today. Liberals prefer passing the responsibility to the Federal Govt because they cannot get things done at the state and local levels. That is delegating responsibility and that is something no one can ever do.
Sounds like you come from northeast Houston. LOL!
we don't have a lot saved. my husband has a pension, which we will live on while we sail, and then we can tap into my 401 and ira when we are too old to sail. i'm 51, i could keep working, but what the hell? we don't want to live our lives thinking about what we will do later, i'd rather do now and worry about later, later. we've seen too many people work their asses off, retire, and die.
Many liberals are arrogant, that is true, but many conservatives are ignorant....given a choice, I will go with arrogant.
In fact, my granddaughter's brain surgeon is arrogant, according to his own staff. But he has cause to be, he is very good at what he does....
You are leaving out the ones who don't have jobs, thanks to greedy "entrepeneurs" who jimmied the real estate business...
