My best friend's wife has anxiety. It's not noticeable to others as she conceals it well but it's always been there since childhood and she feels it prevents her from fully enjoying life.

She's not interested in any prescription remedies as she doesn't take anything now and doesn't want to start.

There seems to have been few studies on CBD for anxiety but the small ones that I've seen found that 300 to 600 mg a day is useful in reducing anxiety symptoms.

Does anyone have experience with this?

I'll be interested to learn about this, as well.

Me.

I was close to being confined about 12 years ago. I had lost my income as the result of an accident. I had no support and no where to turn.

I had been a drinker (alcoholic) and a pot smoker for years but had recently quit pot. A friend, a grower gave me some oil which I took as vapor and it mellowed me out.

However, there is a problem in that there are few "practitioners" who have experience with dosages. You can go too far and create serious side effects, such a paranoia. Now, if you go too strong it worsens the problem, too little and you're just uncomfortable AND in pain.

Search, if you can, for people who are using CBD now or have in the past. It is not a straight path and you can end up more screed up than before which happens when using too much.

And don't, please, go for straight pot. It will be too strong and make her jittery.

Thanks for sharing your experience and advice.

This article mentions the 300 to 600 mg dose. She's a small lady with zero experience so the lowest effective dose would be best.

Heh - her husband is Cheech Marin and she can't stand the smell of pot.

CBD is fine. lay off the THC in the beginning. she might want to add some later if the CBD reduces anxiety (it should)
From what I've read CBD can decrease anxiety while THC is more likely to increase it.

basically yes. but there are so many cannibinoids besides those 2 main ones. I like plain old weed. but i've smoked pot since 1969
Start off on the CBD only, and then go from there if she wants to fine tune it

Yes, it can, but not typically. I am a pothead from way back in the day. Then it was smoking the stuff. Nowadays there are so many combinations and blends you can experiment and see what works.
Start low on the THC. Some people do feel anxious, others benefit enormously. There is NO one size fits all.

The only thing I noticed was when I heated up a dab rig (typically used for THC conentrates, like wax) and dumped in a couple hundred mg of straight CBD isolate (I have a milligram scale). There was a sudden onset of noticeable relaxation, but it didn't come with any out-of-it-ness.

. My best friend has anxiety, and I know she, your friend, wants to stay away from a medical solution, but I can tell you that life is short, and if modern medicine has a solution = TAKE IT. Repeat, "Life is Short". My friend would have lost priceless years of happiness if not for simple medication , such as Ativan, etc....

Has she had her vitamin D levels tested?

I tried to link some studies about the relationship between Vitamin D and anxiety in the National Institutes of Health website but, of course, the links are dead. F*ckers.

I would suggest a nice indica cannabis strain. Something edible and start with five milligrams, half a gummy or half a piece of chocolate.

I do CBD, hybrid THC/CBD or specific types of THC for anxiety. Depending on the day, how bad my anxiety is or if it’s day/bedtime.

Life changing.

I spent years trying and hating every pharmaceutical anxiety medication on the market and always hated the side effects. I can’t stand how the “rescue” meds such as Ativan or Xanax make me feel completely out of it and barely able to keep my eyes open.

I need to be functional.

I switched over - under a doctor - from pharmaceutical to CBD/THC probably 7-8 years ago and it really has completely changed my life and made me a much more happy person.

None of the awful side effects - and I can “manage” my anxiety on a day to day basis much more easily and without basically knocking myself out and losing hours with a rescue med.

I still keep Ativan for when and if the real bad full blown panic attacks hit. But honestly, I’m probably going to have to ask my doctor to refill the pills because they’ve likely expired or are close to it. A bottle of 15 has been sitting on the shelf for that long without me needing them. (And they have to stay there as a “just in case”. That’s part of anxiety 😂)

Also…if she hasn’t…tell her to get her thyroid checked. My anxiety is directly tied to underlying autoimmune thyroid disease. If I start having more and more anxiety for no reason? I know it’s time to go and get my bloodwork checked and adjust my thyroid meds. Check vitamin D and Vitamin B levels also. I take D and B12 daily. Again - a thyroid related thing.

I’ve always had thyroid disease - but especially after pregnancy, my thyroid is shot. And you’d be amazed how much of your body that little gland impacts.

(I do drops that you can put in a drink and edibles for the most part. I have a vape for if I need to take an “edge” off a little more quickly. But that’s my last resort before I’d take a rescue med)

I'll ask her. She's pretty healthy but most people could use a bit of Vitamin D especially in colder climates.

Have her get it checked. My vitamin D was down to 19 (of however they measure it) when I broke my ankle. They prefer you to be at 50, and I don't know about Canada, but it's not checked on blood tests as often as it should be. Do you have a place up there such as Quest Diagnostics where she can get her own test done?

CBD helped some but didn't really do a whole lot for my anxiety - but I probably didn't have the right dose. I would agree with @bongsaway about finding a nice indica, only I would say to smoke (I don't love edibles). Leafly.com is a pretty good source to look up whether thc is high or low, as well as whether a strain is calming or energizing. It's not perfect, but it helps. Northern Lights always puts a smile on my face, and Purple Punch is nice too. Neither are really high in thc so they might be decent starting points. I do find, however, that if I get high too often it can increase anxiety. She just needs to go slow and find her level.

I personally prefer smoking my bong. One hit at a time, I do not fill my bowl, I want a fresh hit every time. It's also the best way to control your high. With an edible, who knows how a person is going to react, especially one who has never had cannabis.

Yeah. I've had edibles that would take forever to take effect. You wonder if it's ever going to, but you don't dare take more. And I've had edibles that took effect pretty quickly. I think whether you've eaten or not, and what you've eaten can also affect them. But my daughter uses gummies frequently and likes them. 🤷‍♀️ Give me smoking (or in my case vaporizing flower) any day. Much more reliabe, IMO.

edibles are tooooo long lasting for me..*does this stuff ever wear off?*

How many mg?
20:1 CBD:THC ratio for my standard hybrid edibles.

200 CBD:10mg THC is one edible/pill/lozenge for most of the ones I have/like. Day time I vary CBD/sativa THC strains.

I tend to take 1/2 then take another 1/2 if it isn’t enough about 1 hour later. (Pill types have a “snap line”, gummy types I just bite them in half 🤷‍♀️

1/2 is usually enough for most days. 🤷‍♀️

CBD alone is 200 (again 1/2) and if that isn’t enough, the full 400.

Night time, I’ll do a full 200:10mg with an indica strain to sleep. My brain doesn’t like to shut off otherwise 🤷‍♀️😂

Lol, yeah I've had that happen. I sat back on the bed for quite some time waiting for it too be done. It was before edibles were even regulated for thc here. I'd gotten a brownie, ate part of it, and nothing. Ended up slowly eating all of it and never really got high. So later on I got a cookie and ate the whole thing. Woah.

In legal/medical states you can just go buy the type of weed you want. blow the top of your head off, mellow out or a nice mixture
And you control exactly when you want to continue the effects -or not

Exactly. Legalization has been nice. And like I said, with Leafly (and Allbud) you can look up a lot of the strains and get an idea of what they'll be like. If a strain isn't way over on the calming side of Leafly's gauge, I won't even touch it. And I doubt if we'd even have places like Leafly if there wasn't a lot of states that legalized. Though we might, because of Canada.

Get a vape!

I have a tower and it brings out a low temp vapor, cool and sweet tasting!

I roll one or two a day for old times sake. I take pride in that every one looks factory! Technically it is a no smoking building so I use an air cleaner desk size right next to the volcano.
