Bit of an update for y'all.

First of all for the "we don't need Canada" crowd...

OTTAWA — Prime Minister Mark Carney warned Tuesday that Canadian investment in the United States — already among the highest in the world — could decline if trade relations deteriorate and a new economic and security pact is not secured.

“Canada is the second-largest investor in the United States today in the world.

Trump said earlier this week that Carney called him. That turns out to be a fib...

Carney sounded in no hurry to get Trump on the line — or back to the negotiating table.

“We’ll speak when it makes sense,” Carney said.

Canada and Mexico are in talks to establish a Canada - Mexico trade corridor...

Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand and Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne are in Mexico for a series of meetings that are to include Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum.

Anand and Champagne are laying the groundwork for a future meeting in Mexico between Carney and the Mexican leader.

I'd started a thread about Canadian port capacity when all this 51st state stuff first broke because it seemed to me that the logical outcome of Donald's whole mess was expanded trade with Latin America and China through the Pacific, and expanded trade with Europe through the Atlantic, and my first reaction at the time was, "Huh, Canada should start building ports."

Admittedly I was being self-serving by trying to identify good investment targets but then I got lazy and forgot about it. :)

Someone told me a few weeks ago we don't have ports. We have 3 coastlines and ports on all of 'em.

We've had ports since 1605.

Carney is no different then most of the world when it comes to Trump. He has not made a single trade agreement that is binding and on paper with any nation. He just makes up shit and calls it a deal. None of what he claims are billions in payments from Japan and the EU are real. And both of them have stated it very clearly.

So

Someone told me a few weeks ago we don't have ports. We have 3 coastlines and ports on all of 'em.

That seems like a weird thing for someone to say!

Anyhow my thought was more to port capacity and port construction as a logical investment if trans-United States traffic goes down or becomes cumbersome as I'm certain Donald will make it.

That northern coastline is not the most accommodating, though.

It's gonna be a route between Asia and Europe. We need to arm our Coast Guard icebreakers.
Irving is currently building two new ones. Now would be the time to do it.

It's not enough to just point on a map and say, 'This is ours.' We have to do something to make it ours.

Good. Trump feels the same way.
In the meantime, that 35% on everything not covered by the USMCA is still in effect.
Oh...and when Trump decides it's time to discuss the USMCA, Carney WILL come to the table to negotiate. If he doesn't, the USMCA ends and EVERYTHING Canada sells to the US will be hit with a 35% tariff. If that happens, Canada's economy collapses.

Cool story bro. Facts of course notwithstanding. 😄

Trump admitted to press he has been calling Carney.

85% of Canadian exports to U.S. are tariff free.

By the time Trump gets finished charging you idiots 35% more tax on everything you buy; so many more of you will be on welfare assistance, all that tariff money you nuts gave him will be tasked to your peasant class just to keep them fed. Trump will go golfing.

Entertainment for the rest of the free world. Better than Disney.

I've given up and am now dismissing him via telepathy.
Him and a couple more are too invested in “your momma wears army boots” type of schoolyard nonsense to be taken seriously on any topic involving the current state of America’s meltdown.

Mycroft:

When we start exporting petroleum products and LNG abroad in great volume the US will be cut off. Why is that important? Because your ever-cautious Mr. Trump is making promises to export American energy in quantities that the US doesn't have and when we can export our stuff abroad, you will have even less. Therefore Mr. Trump will be in default of the new trade agreements which he is making with Vietnam, the EU and Britain and they will drop you as a customer as soon as they can too. Face it, the American who would be king is a lying idiot writing energy cheques he cannot cover. When that default happens then the US will not be able to sell the trillions of dollars of treasury bonds and other securities it needs to cover your colossal national debt and the US will default on that too. more of your budget will be eaten up by debt servicing and your well-armed people will grow angrier and angrier. Building pipelines, ports, northern refineries, well protected northern arms factories, well protected nuclear reactors in the North and northern military infrastructure; as well as recruiting and training 3000 Canadians per month of all ages to fight a possible invasion by the US is the spectrum of what we should be concentrating on domestically. Internationally we should be making trade treaties and working to align as many states and blocs against the Trumpian USA Federal state as possible to by-pass that country and encyst it in order to hasten its demise and hopefully a return to rational economics and politics Not talking with an oath-breaker and habitual liar like Mr. Trump is the sensible strategy. Winter of 2026-27 is coming and it will be a long cold one for a USA without Canadian energy to warm your homes and power your engines. Then the summer of 2027 will be an oven without enough energy for air conditioning. Mr. Trump boasts about using economic force against Canada. It's time to use economic force to destabilise his already tenuous reign of Trumpty Dumpty and tip the crown from his head (or in the French model the head from his shoulders). Vive la deuxieme revolution Americaine! (Long live to the second American Revolution!).

Be.
