I've just been diagnosed with one. This is pretty weird since I'm only 43. So far the people from the ER to the cardio people have been great. I will post more later.

I wish you all the best.

Already this morning 18 vials of blood taken the three shoots. All this well before 6 am

Curious. How did you discover your cardiomyopathy? Illness, routine checkup, high blood pressure, angina (chest pain)?

Depending on the type of cardiomyopathy hopefully the treatment can be something as simple as taking maintenance medication such as an anticoagulant (Coumadin/Warfarin are examples) and or a beta blocker (propranolol or metoprolol are generic examples). By the way those medications are very inexpensive. I take both - for a different heart problem - I had stents put in about 4 years ago.

Hope everything works out fine for you.

I had had shortness of breathe and a racing heart beat but what finally got me in was when my started retaing fluid on massive scale.

Best of luck to you, Winston. You were smart to get things checked out.

This has to be the worst I have ever felt in my life.

I hate it for you man.
I do wish you well, as far as I have known you here you've been a pretty cool guy.

Any news of what treatments you'll need?

What I have is Non Compaction Cardiomyopathy a very rare condition with a potentialy fatal racing heart. I'm now on 5 different daily medications with a recommendation to get a in chest defibulator next week for the rapid heart beat.

Im just glad to be out of the hospital for now. Man they took blood left and right to figure out the meds. One morning they took 14 viles at once.

Damn man, I'm sorry.
Is there a long term way to fix it without such invasive things like a defibrillator?

My wife has spent extensive amounts of time in the hospital, they sometimes forget that your a person and not a pin cushion.

It really makes you weak and tired.

I wish the best for you my man. Good luck.

A lot of the anxiety is the unknown. As you learn more about your condition and what is upcoming and what to expect down the road some of that is eased and you can get on with your rehabilitation/maintenance.

LOL...yeah I know about the blood samples.

Glad you are out of the hospital and hope you get the defibrillator as it has shown itself to save lives.

Sorry to hear about this troubling turn of events. Keep us posted, eh?

Here's the Wiki-explanation of this condition:
