The indictment, which includes conspiracy charges against four men described as leaders of the far-right group presents fresh evidence of how officials believe members planned and carried out a coordinated attempt to stop Congress certifying Joe Biden’s electoral victory over Donald Trump.

At least 19 leaders, members or associates of the Proud Boys have been charged in federal court with offenses related to the 6 January riot, which resulted in five deaths. More than 300 people have been charged in total. Trump was impeached for the inciting the insurrection but was acquitted after only seven Republican senators broke ranks to vote to convict him.

I posted here at DP that dozens of Proud Boys were staying at the Hotel Harrington in D.C. in the week leading up to January 6.

I'm not sure if the FBI knew this, but they should have. It was no secret. The hotel owners were complaining to the local media and closed the first floor hotel lounge on January 5.

Yes, I remember that. Didn’t the hotel end up closing for that weekend because of the behavior of their guests.

Every conspiracy charge can get you 5 years in a Federal prison.

This law is so straightforward that it only takes up one sentence.
 

When Trump made that statement, you know he was planning this for a while. He sent a message to the Proud Boys to get ready to come to D.C. om 1/6/21.

The Capitol riot & Trump involved in a conspiracy with these thugs & he gets a pass? Five people are dead & the inciter-in-chief just walks away?
 

The Republicans sent a clear message to all future Presidents. If you are unable to use a hoax to steal an American election, you have one last chance to use mob-like terrorism on Electoral College day. If you fail at that point, you will simply leave Office anyway.

"Encrypted messaging channel" is incredibly vague, since I think almost every messaging channel is encrypted to some degree at this point.

It is likely encrypted mobile phones, which these guys use like walkie talkies. They use encryption apps like VPN.

The bad thing for thugs: cell phones when on are constantly being 'pinged' by the nearest cellphone towers & the metadata from each ping is stored in memory. I overheard police on my scanner. They had tracked a suspect to a parking lot & then were able to tell where exactly he was. Smart criminals leave their phones off.

They had all sorts of advanced intel about this but they were totally unprepared: Capitol & Municipal Police, FBI, military. I suspect conspiracy, starting with Trump.
