Canadian resolve on trade negotiations hardens as country faces day one of increased tariffs

BRICS has been "just getting started" for ten years now.

They didn't have sufficient motivation to begin inter-BRICS trading. The massive sanctions against Russia was the wakeup call. Global tariffs and the threat of secondary sanctions - something even Biden didn't do - is only going to accelerate that push. BRICS members and partners have a collective GDP that massively dwarfs the US. It doesn't dwarf the G7, but again, one bloc is punishing its alliance by blanketly raising tariffs on them, and the other is encouraging more countries to join. How do you think this ends, especially when you consider the US has $38 trillion in debt and many of its allied members have similar debt-GDP ratios but not a lot of access to raw materials...that are found in "shithole countries"?

Do the math and tell me how you think it ends?

What you are ignoring is that every one of those BRICS countries are bending over backwards to be able to do business with the US.

LMAO...bro, they are not. You need to put away your little MAGA comic books because you're about to get schooled.

They want to do business in the US to avoid near-term economic disruption, which is what any country with sane leadership would do. Sane leaders minimize the damage to their economies where possible.

Now, what is *this* country doing? It's applying tariffs to everyone - including members of its own alliance. These are the countries that give the United States dollar its value. You do realize that as we speak, BRICS countries are trying multiple ways to settle transactions that avoid the dollar system. That was already happening in response to Russia sanctions. Now we're threatening India and China with secondary sanctions and imposing sanctions on Brazil, the largest economy in South America. How do you think this ends, Mycroft?

Yes, but Russia is involved and dude just loves Russia.

Yes, but Russia is involved and is about to deliver a massive strategic defeat to the country that, let's face it, sells its global influence on the false premise of freedom when the entire world can see that it is behaving in ways that even some of the worst authoritarian regimes won't. America is a lie. I'm sorry you're now waking up to this fact, but it is something the rest of the world is now going to reject, and quite forcefully. Not only is America a lie, but America's foreign projects are also lies - the worst lies, led by the world's worst hypocrites.

It's all going to come crumbling down soon enough. The hegemon and the lies the hegemon tells.

We cannot reconcile "saving" Ukraine whilst simultaneously selling a genocide that the entire world can see. We're exposed. Deal with it.

So, how are things going for your heroes in Zaporiziah and Sumy?

Once Russia takes Pokrovsk...it's completely over. It's already over now because the Rooskies are firing drones and not invading. They're damaging morale and then cleaning up.

Carney continues to enjoy support for his approach to dealing with American aggression.

Other poll results:
63% say recognize a Palestinian State, even if Trump objects.
59% support counter tariffs.
Carney's approval rating remains high at 57%.

he finds a country largely looking to hold the line
Let's see who blinks first, MAGAs or Canadians. Let's see how much MAGAs are willing to sacrifice for the felon.
But...why don't they grow their own tomatoes...(some sore excuse I read not long ago)

Haar! A jean vest and an MC. Kindred souls indeed. 1964 I rode a 58 Triumph 650 TR6C from Esquimalt to my home in Aurora, On. Parts of Roger’s Pass were still gravel. By the time I arrived in On. that poor Triumph was scrap. Good times.
'64 I was getting ready to buy my first MC. A 90 CC Honda 'S'.

By 66 I was rebuilding a 1949 Harley 900 CC that was the longest MC in the universe. The pistons weighed more than the Honda 90.

I swapped that for a BSA 650 which I sold when I escaped to Canada. Somewhere in there I acquired a Yamaha 250 enduro, the 'funnest' bike I ever owned. I drove it up city hall steps in Kitchener, Ontario. When the cop commanded me to come down I shot off the far side and escaped through back alleys and drive ways.

Soon after that I became a professional journalist and felt it best if I didn't remind the cops about my biking days

I take infomercial calls on my desktop and phone . I had a Canadian Caller who cussed me out because we ship to Canada from the USA.
This after asking me about the added costs of tariffs ( which i didn't know.. he hung up on me)

Carney is a centrist, appointed to the Bank of Canada by a Conservative PM and to the Bank of England by a Conservative PM.

He's very palpable to Bay Street.

We understand his economic background. What surprised me is how quickly he's come up to speed, and how effectively he's communicating to Canadians.

I felt a collective national sigh of relief when he committed, the nation was staring at a choice between "Bird brain" Trudeau and the funny little guy who pretends to be from the west. No one wanted either and as soon as Carney announced Poilieve's support was sliced in half.

It also surprised me how quickly Canadians caught on and switched allegiances in a snap. In summer yet.

Why are Canadians upset with Trump's tariffs? I mean, it not like Canada is paying for them, right?
You're paying for the tariffs.

That makes your post extra funny.

Once Russia takes Pokrovsk...it's completely over.
You think Ukraine will quit if and when Povrosk goes under? It hasn't been a functional city in a year.
It's already over now because the Rooskies are firing drones and not invading.
So you support targeting civilians. Okay.
They're damaging morale and then cleaning up.
Nonsense. If they could move on the battlefield, they would.
The Moscow Times.

Pierre recently posted a tweet about someone being a "patriot". The guy just doesn't learn and can't stop being cringe. Even members of his own party must be doing face palms.

I'll take that bet on five to one odds!

Canadians endure. Complaining is just not in our nature. Notice no hockey player EVER disputes a penalty call....

We don't get mad, we get even.

Right now there is so much anger at Trump that is starting to spill over into anti-American rhetoric! Hey, tax me I'm Canadian! We can handle higher prices, tariffs whatever but DO NOT think we're stupid enough to ever believe that lump of shit you call "president". He called us out. He has challenged our sovereignty! 51st state my ass!

Talking to neighbors last week recalling when the US had to close its air space and re-direct air liners to Canadian airports. It was black humor, as we laughed about jumbos falling into the sea....making the "Trump dump"

We are not "friends" anymore. That 250 year old relationship is dead. Killed by Donald Trump, convicted fraud and rapist.

Too sad that one man ruined our relationship.

Here in North-Central Illinois, we just want your potash and not your 🔥 smoke.

Count the agricultural markets trump has ****ing GIVEN away to Brazil from BRICS, PERMANENTLY.

Perhaps a vintage Musical interlude to inspire more spirited debate.

Sage advice although I would drop the "W" and pluralise it in the title and some of the lyrics.

Cheers. be well and elbows up.

"Woman" in this song is the Statue of Liberty.

It is likely the most anti-American main stream song ever produced.

Burton Cummings wrote the lyrics after a trip through the US as an insult to pretty much everything from MacDonald's to "near beer". He had said "super highways, strip malls, and litter...."

"American woman gonna mess your mind.....
"American woman stay away from me....
"I don't need your war machines...
I don't need your ghetto scenes...

"War machines and ghetto scenes - not exactly a compliment on the American way of life!

And it reigned as a number one HIT in the US!
