Do we need to keep complaining the other side is fomenting violence by saying an election was stolen or the other guy is a threat to democracy? Do we have to be responsible for what all the nutjobs do?

Or do we JUST NEED TO KEEP NUTJOBS FROM GETTING GUNS.

I think Americans have been talking about guns for a long time now. Maybe you just don't like where the conversation tends to go.

"From my cold dead hands!" is where it usually goes. How many more have to die before sanity is regained?

People wonder, not unreasonably, why they should give up their guns when they did nothing wrong. Telling them it regains "sanity" is a little insane IMO.

How do you feel about universal, criminal background checks as a requirement for possessing guns and motor vehicles?

They love their bang sticks.

Won't matter. In America protecting weapons over humans is a way of life.

I can see someone angrily saying that, slamming their car door, and peeling out to show everyone they're angry.
Everyone can just stay home and shut up so the guns can flow freely. Ridiculous hobby.

People say that about hobbies they have no interest in.

Not as long as we have a 2nd Amendment.

You know..."shall not be infringed."

Wow, try much harder at smack. That's 3rd grade.
It was an observation of the quality of your posts in this sub forum.
But I would say if you're seeking "smack" responses, go elsewhere or bring something more than third grade babble about bang sticks.

Wanna talk about my proposal for universal criminal background checks as a requirement for possessing a gun or motor vehicle? I'm inclined to consider an electric bicycle as a motor vehicle. How about you?

No it was just angry dumb posts by you. Compare reaction scores. Oh e bikes, wow, dumbest post ever!

You aren't interested in discussing gun control proposals, yet here you are in the Guns and Gun Control forum.

So were you wanting recommendations on a brand of AR type rifle or something?

Keep lowering the bar with dumb posts. You excel at that

Is this the sort of superior smack you implied I lacked? Twice saying, "your dumb posts"? 😆

Why don't you want to discuss guns or gun control in the forum prescribed for those topics? Is there no smack forum where you can regale participants with your wit?

Sorry. Didn't see you edited your post.

Yeah, you got a like for saying "dumb posts" and "dumbest post ever".

That's truly impressive. Really. It's nice that it helps your self image. What does the "liker" get?

Gun hobbyists won't move a millimeter on this issue. If I could bet on it, I'd bet all of my discretionary money, and then I'd retire on the proceeds, assuming that the odds were good enough.

How do we know who the "nutjobs" are?

Define "universal background checks".

My idea is that they be as unobtrusive as possible for the law abiding, while being an obstacle to the criminally inclined.

My basic model is much like my state's background checks for private sales. The buyer and seller enter the buyer's basic identification info into a website operated by the state police, or telephone them with it. The police do the background check and either deny the sale or provide a verification number indicating the buyer is not a prohibited person.

The seller keeps that number and info about the sale in his own records for a period of time. 10 years in my state.

What gun control law that Democrats promoted and Republicans opposed would have prevented this shooting?

It could be even simpler. Convicted violent felons should have a big honking "F" on their IDs. And if you want to sell a gun from someone, you have to check their ID, and not sell to anyone with a big honking F on their ID.

Mandatory LWOP sentence for ALL convicted of being involved in the commission of a violent crime.

Guns: 100% for it.

Motor vehicles: this isn't a motor vehicles forum and the question wasn't about motor vehicle control. Not sure where a thread about that would belong -- maybe General? -- but you could always post the question along with support as to why you believe felons and/or mentally ill people should not legally be allowed to purchase motor vehicles.
