A bomb threat has forced the evacuation of all buildings on the University of Texas campus in Austin.
According to Rhonda Weldon, communications director for the University's Operations office, "At 8:35 a.m. the university received a call from a male with a middle eastern accent claiming to have placed bombs all over campus. He said he was with Al Qaeda and these bombs would go off in 90 minutes. President Powers was notified and it was decided to evacuate all of the buildings out of an abundance of caution."
I never got the logic behind bomb threats, either it's some jackass on campus thinking he's a funny bugger, or it's some dude in the Middle East trying to cause a ruckus.
Either way you still have to take the precautions that were taken in this case, but 99.9% of the time it's a pretty clear sign there is no bombs.
If you really wanted to bomb a place... wouldn't exactly warn people about it would you?
Edit: In South Africa as a child our school received several bomb threats a year... every single time it turned out to be one of our students who had said it.

Again, what does anyone get out of threatening kids?
People are screwed up... Some more than others.

Or someone trying to get out of a test.
There is a school very close to mine where a student faked a bomb threat during final exams because they wanted more time to study. They instead got arrested.
Awesome, though that's a pretty desperate act to avoid a test. LOL
My school and that school are very intense rivals. We view them as a school for rich hippie kids. Needless to say there was much gossip on our campus about the incident. It is desperate, but it is also selfish. They canceled finals that day and had to reschedule them so some individuals had more tests than they anticipated on one day. For some they had to stay at school an extra day and delay traveling back to see their families.
Why do it on a Friday when there is no school?
I beg to differ. Most classes are not on Friday. So yeah. Take that!
If one person was injured, let alone killed, as a result of this nonsense that is too high a price. What do you think?
