Not just the paper that Calvin's holding, but the quote itself, looks Photoshopped. Watterson didn't draw panels in this style.

Still gonna need a source for this. I don't recall Watterson's doing a single Calvin & Hobbes panel after he came out of retirement.

I read Calvin and Hobbes religiously when I was a child, and collected all the books. The style appears to be an earlier separate piece and appears to have been done before he retired the comic strip in the mid-1990s. The art style looks like it was done in the late-80s.

Another “Calvin and Hobbes” strip from Salem’s collection sold for $120,000 during the auction, which took place earlier this month. That unpublished, black-and-white illustration, which Watterson drew in 1988, depicts Calvin and Hobbes sitting back to back while reading newspapers with cheeky headlines like “Woman Weds Space Alien Elvis Clone.” After Hobbes comments on the tragedy of adult illiteracy, Calvin retorts: “I’ll say. Think of all the important things in life people miss if they can’t read!”

Ha. Called it. The style is a lot softer with the characters are more curved out than his later work.

Since AI has been in the news (and attracting interest in the markets), started playing around w/ "gemini"

and asking about philosophical artistic mashups regarding environmental issues,...

Using AI (Actual Intelligence) did a google image search of "Calvin and Hobbs reading" then simply copied actual text from a comic strip that I found funny (decades ago)

Basically put the mash-up image of comic characters pretty quickly AND kinda did it because IMHO there is wisdom in Calvin and Hobbs comic strips, along w/ reading actual old school newspapers (which don't need electrical power to read on my patio)

Thank you. I knew that the material had been changed from the original.
