lol. the Wikipedia article describes 'the southwest' and says that "the southwest" as a "geographical and cultural area" includes portions of California.

But in terms of this forum, under the 'state and local' section - Issues related to California are included in the "West"

Again, sure, he plays his part, and approves the bills. But budgets originate in the legislature. To lay it all on Newsom is silly. There's a legislature full of people that authorized the spending, and it follows a path that California has been on for decades.
 
The bottom line is that Gavin Newsom's gross incompetence has caused MILLIONS of Californians to flee the state.

Gavin Newsom is the first California governor in the History of the state to actually cause a DECLINE in population.

That's right. Idiotic sanctuary state policies, wasteful deficit spending, Constitutional gun right infringements, a lot of misdeeds by Newsom caused many taxpayers to flee to states with better governance.

That pile of human garbage got caught violating his own authoritarian rules regarding masks and dining indoors during the pandemic. Gavin Newsom holds a lot of contempt for Californians, and Californian taxpayers.

Newsom's failures in leadership are on display for the whole world to see. Most Democrats are oblivious to them and would like to see Gavin Newsom run for president.

I hope that Newsom is the democratic presidential candidate someday. The republican opponent will have an easy task of destroying Newsom in a debate by showing what a colossal mess Newsom has made of California.
 
I don't dispute that he's incompetent. But again, he's hardly alone in being an incompetent part of the California state government. Just noting that it isn't JUST him, but the legislature, and it's taken decades of mismanagement to get here.

I suspect the more recent increase in people leaving is also related to increased workforce mobility following covid - remote work has made it much easier for people to live where they want. But people have been fleeing the state for a while.
 
I don't understand why you're apologizing for Newsom's incompetence. He wields the Mighty Pen. When dumb legislation makes it to his desk, Newsom can (and should) simply reject it.

But he doesn't. A competent governor would reject the nonsensical legislation, and the rights infringements. Not Newsom, though. The dumber the Law or statute, the more Newsom likes it (so it seems).

Have you heard about Newsom's infamous rainwater tunnel boondoggle project?

Newsom wants Californians to pony up $20 BILLION on a tunnel to collect rainwater.

This is just another nonsensical global warming/climate change boondoggle which Californians don't need and cannot afford. Newsom is incompetent, and Californians missed our golden opportunity to can his sorry a$$ when we petitioned for his recall.
 
huh? Where am I "apologizing for Newsom's incompetence". I said he was incompetent. In the post you quoted.

I'm just saying he's not alone - and he's not the one that created the budget. And that it's a long line of incompetent politicians in that state that got them there.

Worth noting, you might get more response from people who want to talk bout California in the thread for California.
