Stupid 3rd world grocery store. Ran out of lettuce when I arrived. I gave the staff a piece of my mind since theres no arugula and kale either. They had watercress, but no thanks.

So I ended up buying a bunch of cabbage, but aside from slaw, does anyone have any ideas for a good salad? Slaw is the only thing I can think of for cabbage.

And please no recipes for sauerkraut, I hate it.

If I were on your staff I'd tell you to buy your own dang groceries if you don't like what I can find.

Here, easy

Here's a veggie kimchi recipe that you don't have to age that's yummy! If you like spicy!

But it's less of a salad, and more of a side or condiment that goes well with other foods.

No Mayo Cabbage Salad | The Mediterranean Dish

You can mess around with the dressing on this one, and ad what you like!

It's not a cold salad.
But, it can be a hot salad.
Great for winter.

I love sauteing and simmering Cabbage (big chunks), in tomatoes, garlic, onions and Kalamata olive or black olives. Celery and thin slices of carrots (optional).
Don't add any liquid.
Cook, covered. Until it's cooked to desired tenderness.
If you want it dry, just uncover it until the liquid is gone. But keep stirring it.

***Freezes well at this point.

Add butter and/or a little bit of honey at the end of cooking (optional).

You can add shredded cheese for some gooeyness.

I eat it as a side-dish with sour cream.

Tacos!!!

Tortilla, meat of choice, shredded cabbage, hot sauce, and either pico de gallo or just some onion and cilantro.

Not a salad that you can whip up in a hurry, and I already have it.

How about sauteeing shredded cabbage in butter, just enough to wilt it that it lose its raw taste and yet, still crunchy - then adding a few drops of quality Balsamic vinegar, cooking until the vinegar caramelizes with the cabbage.
If you use olive oil instead of butter - this can be eaten cold as well.

I'm also thinking of the option to stir this with cooked egg noodles (kinda inspired by Polish Haluski).
It can become a cold noodle salad. You can add any veggies you want into it.

I hope you realize that slaw refers to the way cabbage is cut. Almost any sort of cabbage salad is a slaw.

How do you feel about kimchee?

Slaw is a mayo and vinegar based salad. And kimchi is OK in small doses.

Chinese spicy cabbage salad
Shredded cabbage
2 tbsp seasame seed oil
2 tbsp apple vinegar
2 tsp sugar (I use less than 1)
chiliflakes

Comes out looking orange.
. Had a Chinese restaurant that made this. Could have eaten it by the truckload. Found the recipe online.

Cabbage Salad (Lower) Bavarian Style (Kraut Salat)
Shredded cabbage
Herb vinegar. I use some stuff from Switzerland. It's so good you could drink it.
Sunflower Oil (my preference)
They sell ham bits in the package in Europe. I guess thick bacon would suffice.
Salt & Pepper from a pepper mill.

You hate sauerkraut, but this is a traditional Hungarian dish from Szeged near the Romanian border. Goulash with sauerkraut.

This looks good, though I'll need to omit the sugar since my diet is keto.
