The video honoring the Tuskegee Airmen, it is believed, was removed as an act of "malicious compliance" by someone who knew it would cause an issue. In January 2025, the U. S. Navy paused all curriculum in classes that might contain content in conflict with the President's Executive Order. Someone (they may have been identified, I don't know), removed 1 video, "Airmindedness," containing clips on the Tuskegee Airmen and the Women Air Force Service Pilots (WASPS). Of course it got out and the Navy quickly rectified the issue. "Airmindedness" spent exactly 4 days out of the curriculum.
Now, on to your second point. The Naval Academy Library contains approximately 600,000 volumes. In April, 900 of those books were placed on a list to be reviewed for compliance with the President's Executive Order. The Autobiography of Martin Luther King Jr., Einstein on Race and Racism, and a biography of Jackie Robinson were among them. By the end of May (about 2 months), all but 20 books had already been returned to the shelf. Those 20 are still under review. Even 900 books would take time to review. I can't find that these three books are among those that are still unavailable at the Academy library and, again, there's no record of who actually compiled the list of 900 books being pulled from shelves for review.
Further, because it would have taken forever to manually review all 600,000 volumes in the library, the Department of Defense (now War) developed search criteria by which the initial batch of 900 books was identified. At the risk of starting a nitpicking flame war (to which I won't be a party), here are the specific search terms. They all make sense to me, with one exception, "allyship." I have no idea what that is but, I'm satisfied the list (with that possible exception) is in line with the type of materials the Executive Order was looking to exclude. I know you disagree with the Executive Order on principle but, there was not specific targeting of books and, in fact, the vast majority are back on the shelves -- I imagine the 3 books giving you heartburn can, after a brief month-long (probably shorter) absence, can once again be checked out at the library.
