The New York Times is reporting newly revealed classified missions of Seal Team 6 operations in North Korea by Bush and trump. Bush's succeeded, Obama's well known mission against Osama bin Laden's did also, trump's mission, to plan a listening device for Kim Jong-Un during nuclear talks, failed.

I came away with the impression that the myth of hyper competence of the special
Forces should not be believed.

It’s amazing the lengths Kim Jong Un goes to when he travels to erase all evidence he was ever there. Any operation like that would never stand a chance.

And I do. trump isn't totally to blame for it, but neither was Carter. It informs trump's cult about their great leader myth.

I think the more disturbing implications is that the Trump administration hid this from Congress.

He really doesn’t respect oversight.

The Intelligence Committee oversees covert operations and, unfortunately, the chair of that committee at the time is known to leak classified information like a sieve. The operation was dangerous enough and just the information is dangerous enough without blabbermouth Schiff knowing about it. But the cat is out of the bag now and apparently the NYT doesnt care about the danger they’ve put those Seal members in. Don’t be surprised if we wake up sometime soon to a headline that their throats have been carved.

This will put a crimp in Trump’s hopes for a Nobel Peace Prize.

Invading another country’s territory with your military and murdering civilians is considered…,how should I put this?…. “bad” by the Nobel committee.

That's too bad. If someone on the Intelligence Committee divulges classified information, they should be charged accordingly. A President doesn't get to just decide that he can't trust The People based on past indiscretions of their representatives and use that as an excuse to break the law to hide his own incompetence.

He does get to make that decision and many Presidents have. For example, Congress found out at the same time as the rest of America about the operation that killed Bin Laden.

That's because it was announced publicly. If you don't want to announce an operation publicly, you still have to brief the US Senate Select Committee on Intelligence. The President cannot legally choose not to.
