Jonathan Kay: America’s firearms culture forged by paranoia, racism and civil rights unrest
.
This week, the United States Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit upheld a 2011 Florida law that makes it illegal for doctors to ask parents if they keep a gun in their house — notwithstanding the fact that the presence of such a weapon is, according to one expert, “43 times more likely to be involved in the death of a member of the household than to be used in self-defence.”
.
Earlier this year, Georgia Governor Nathan Deal signed legislation known to critics as the “guns everywhere bill.” The law allows Georgia residents to carry guns into bars,
(cause guns and alchol go so well together)
... most government buildings and gun-friendly churches
.
On the same day, Kansas Governor Sam Brownback signed a bill that would ban any local government from enforcing ordinances that restrict the open carrying of firearms. “Kansans have long believed the right to bear arms is a constitutional right,” he explained.
.
Meanwhile, members of a group called “Open Carry Texas” are marching proudly through busy stores and parking lots armed with assault rifles, small children in tow.
(teach your children well)
...In one iconic photo, an overweight man with a massive gun slung over his shoulder stands in front of a rack of baby toys at Target, drinking from a bottle of water. According to Open Carry Texas founder CJ Grisham, such stunts will help show Americans that liberals’ collective fear of guns is “irrational.”
.
Well then colour me irrational. And colour all of Canada irrational, too — even the conservative parts.
There is a fine line between responsible gun-rights advocacy and America’s GOP-enabled Yosemite Sam gun-cult carnival — and I feel comfortable drawing that line around the diaper section of my local big-box store.

whats so intrusive about it?
for that fact whats so moronic about it?
https://www.govtrack.us/congress/bills/113/s374/text
.do you own a gun?
.
three
all registered... no problem and they haven't taken them away
but back to the question
(instead of you answering a question with another question)
what do you find so intrusive about it?
.a complete fail. Joe steel claims merely buying a gun is proof of evil intent. if each and every gun owner was as evil as joe steel claims, he would have been shot multiple times by now. the fact that he posts those hateful lies proves he doesn't believe what he says.
your analytical effort as to what I said is pretty pathetic.
.
okay
so that's your opinion on this joe guy
your not bosom buddies...I get it
what does that have to do with my question
"will you pull out your pistolaros"
on this?
"As I noted, he doesn't believe the hate filled crap he spews at gun owners. IF he did, he'd be too scared to spew it"
after all
he might live on the other side of the planet from you
so what might he have to fear?
really what kind
I was in England and heard from sheeple that registration of handguns would never lead to confiscation. that was in 95. guess what happened after one active shooter with handguns killed a bunch of kids the following spring
.
why are you refusing to answer my question?
.I smell hosiery
Jonathon Kay-WTF is he and why should I care about his silly idiotic rants. I see he is well educated but has no real expertise in the subject matter. I get the fact that many leftwing fruitcakes pretend to bash guns out of a concern for public safety when in reality, far left fruitcakes don't like conservatives and bashing guns is a proxy
.What is intrusive about it, is that it's none of the government's damn business what kind of gun I own, how many, or what I intend to do with them, as long as it's not illegal.
.
they know what vehicle you own and use
what makes a firearm so different?
after all its only a tool
.

one needs " real expertise " to figure out alcohol and firearms don't mix?
.There isn't the equivalent of a second amendment for automobiles, which guarantees me the right to own and bear, and which "shall not be infringed".
see post 383. the federal government does not have the proper power to require me, a private seller who is limited to intra-state sales to go through the hassle of finding some dealer to perform a background check of someone I way to sell a gun to
.
hold on now
its the well regulated militia that has that right
but lets pretend its joe citizen for a moment
is regulation not meaning well regulated?
and regulations imply registering
otherwise not well regulated at all
I never have, and will not.

And I don't oppose you having a gun and for you to defend yourself. But how this is done and where the lines are might well be seen differently by the founding fathers than they saw it then.
I don't think they would shun people defending themselves anywhere in the nation though. They didn't have police forces. Hell Alexander Hamilton went heels with Aaron burr. Clearly the founders were not reticent of firearm.
The NRA has dismissed the death of the innocents as just part of the cost of doing business. To the NRA, dead children are close to meaningless. Supporting the NRA is a reprehensible and repugnant behavior.
dead children
But isn't the point that many today don't even understand the reason for the 2nd amendment? The Founders understood the real threat of tyranny. They lived it. I find big government lovers are more inclined to think it old-fashioned to be a staunch supporter of the 2nd Amendment because some of them are so far up the federal government's ass they would allow the government to control when they fart sideways in the name of global warming initiatives. They have no real appreciation of liberty. They like having everything micromanaged because they think they know what is best for you. And that is where the danger lies.
That would require constitutional amendment and is very unlikely to happen. ...
