Bowe Bergdahl, once missing U.S. soldier, charged with desertion - The Washington Post

The two charges news conference is going on now. No discussion about the 2014 investigation will be discussed to keep impartiality during the USMCJ. An article 32 preliminary hearing (like a Grand Jury hearing) will be coming. IF found guilty on both charges, a maximum incarceration of life in prison could be levied. No death penalty was discussed so that is not an option according to the press conference.

This is quite a difference and contrast from Susan Rice, National Security Adviser saying Bergdahl “served the United States with honor and distinction.”

This is utter bull**** for that soldier, we'll have to see what happens, will be following this closely.

Strange how obama went out of his way to get this guy back and paint it as some sort of accomplishment....

Remember when Susan Rice said he served with "honor and distinction"?

Sadly, I believe this only reinforces her belief. This is her ideal soldier.

We don't know his story.

So you are objecting to the conclusion of the Military investigation because you don't know the story?

Seems rational...

Lol@Republicans.

seems like such a wonderful trade now, huh?

was it five or six guys we released?

and for him?

yeah.....Monte Hall is laughing his ass off somewhere

WASHINGTON — Public opposition to the exchange of five Taliban prisoners for captive Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl has less to do with Bergdahl himself and more with how President Obama handled the transfer, according to a new USA TODAY/Pew Research Center poll.

The poll shows 43% of Americans say it was wrong for Obama to make the deal, compared with 34% who say it was the right thing to do.

Thirty percent of those surveyed have a strong opinion of Bergdahl, whose decision to leave his post in 2009 and subsequent capture by the Taliban is under investigation by the Army. Of those, half say they were sympathetic, and half say they are angry with Bergdahl.

The 128 veterans included in the poll are much more harsh in their assessment of the 28-year-old sergeant. Only 6% of veterans who responded say they sympathized with him, while 33% say they were angry. By 68%-16%, veterans say Obama made the wrong decision.

"If he was a captured prisoner of war, we wouldn't be having this discussion," says Joe Davis, the director of public affairs for the Veterans of Foreign Wars. "He put his teammates in jeopardy, and you absolutely don't do that in a combat zone."

wonder what those percentages are now?

Meh. That is the same crap they always say. Meaningless platitudes. Most people we say served with honor and distinction didn't.

Then of course there is that whole pesky innocent until proven guilty concept.

Think of who Bowe Bergdahl is and what he did and then compare that to this administration and the background that they came from.

In the eyes of this administration a soldier who does what Bergdahl did is more heroic and more worthy praise than a hundred Chris Kyles. These people are all basically products of the 60s counter culture in one way or another. Whether they grew up in it or had it taught to them by their parents or mentors, this is what they believe.

He's no soldier, he's a deserter who deserves a bullet.

this sounds like Bull.

if he deserted.. why did it take this long to decide that he deserted?

And.. if he deserted... why was it that no one saw him leave camp in a hostile area. If he could leave undetected.. then it stands to reason the enemy could have entered undetected.

This smells to high heaven.

Strange how obama went out of his way to get this guy back and paint it as some sort of accomplishment....

And yet, like everything else, ****ed it up royally when we all found out what our enemies got in return.

How many other people did Susan Rice (or someone in a comparable position) say served with honor and distinction but who actually didn't? Names, please.

Since she wasn't with the DoD I doubt she ever had much cause to talk about ANY military members. Back in my early enlisted days of processing awards, NCOERs and OERs I certainly saw my share of such overhyped terminology.

Obama treated this guy like a returning hero....It seems his true color shows every day....Why can't you lefties see it?

my god what a story this would be if a Republican had been duped into such a trade. the media would already have a name for it. but for Obama you can almost HEAR this story being SWEPT under the rug.

There has always been something strange about this case. Maybe I watch too much Homeland.
