Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) wants President Obama to negotiate on the debt ceiling — just not with him.
The same day he castigated Obama for being more willing to negotiate with Russian President Vladimir Putin than Congress, Boehner said he had no intention of returning to the one-on-one grand bargain talks he pursued with Obama in 2011.
“I’m not doing that,” Boehner told reporters. “The House is going to pass a bill. We expect the Senate to pass a bill. I would guess the president would engage with the majority leader over there if he so desires,” the Speaker added, referring to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.).
With his Speakership in jeopardy, Boehner in January told House Republicans he would abandon one-on-one negotiations with Obama in favor of a return to “regular order” whereby the House and Senate pass bills and reconcile them.
With Obama refusing to negotiate, the Speaker has found himself in the awkward position of trying to draw the president back to the bargaining table.
The Speaker has spent the last several days imploring Obama to disavow his stated refusal to bargain over the nation’s borrowing authority.
Funny you didn't mention funding ObamaCare...that's the kicker.
Boehner: Obama should negotiate on debt, but not with me - The Hill - covering Congress, Politics, Political Campaigns and Capitol Hill | TheHill.com
ok, somebody please explain to me what is going on with Boehner? Does he forget that this current congress has not even tried reconciling any of the bills that either the house and senate have passed? maybe it is because one sides demands are too extreme to be reconciled?
Why does obama have to negotiate with harry reid? they both want the same thing: a clean bill that continues to fund the government, and a clean bill that raises the debt ceiling. they also want to stop the damage being done by the sequester spending cuts.
why on earth would the president sign any bill that includes his signature achievement?
Because that is the point of what the Repubs in the House are doing.
Actually, if the Senate and Obama don't go along, they alone will be at fault for a government shutdown.
The President is dishonest and can't be trusted - why would Boehner agree to negotiate with him? It's that simple.
if the house manages to pass a bill that funds the government but includes language that defunds part of the Affordable care act, the senate will just remove the language that defunds part of the affordable care act and send it back to the house.
why would the senate and white house be to blame if they refuse to accept anything that defunds part of the affordable care act?
There will be filibusters in the Senate and the deadline for funding OC is the day after the debt limit vote.
Your right, unless the Senate is willing to defund OC, there won't be funding for anything.
that negotiating position is not rational, putting the entire funding of the government on the sacrificial alter just to destroy the affordable care act?
Boehner has to negotiate: either with obama, harry reid, or else he will have to negotiate with Nancy Pelosi to pass something that house democrats can support

No he does not.
On this issue he is certainly playing Awe Shucks I am just a babe in the woods, but a lot of it has to do with his inability or unwillingness to even try to lead the democrat party and get them to compromise on anything. The speaker has been screwed by Obama and Reid before, and by his own party, so it is a smart move on his part to avoid that "Boehner is a villain" mantle they are constantly trying to hang around his neck.
Sounds like it's time for the Senate to consider what the People want too. But since they are led by the left, their sense of superiority will not allow them to. It seems likely the shutdown will happen and the Republicans will be blamed. And the Democrat voters will believe it because they are starstruck idiots.
Boehner is not being portrayed as a villain: he is being portrayed as incapable of handling his position as speaker of the house. The affordable care act may not be the best attempt at reforming healthcare system, But obama has managed to pass a bill that tries to something previous presidents who have failed to pass similar bills that reform the healthcare system.
The affordable care act, for all of its flaws, is the first healthcare reform bill that any president has sucessfully signed into law, and that is why it is historic.
And that historical achievement is now a hostage, the required sacrifice needed to allow the government to function and raise the debt ceiling.
The debt ceiling is not something to bargain over, the full faith and credit of the united states government should not be risked to satisfy one parties obsession in destroying something they view as ideological blasphemy.
Beauty of this is-People out here in the world will care less about the govt being shut down!!:twocents:
I know I wont!!
if the federal government has to shut down, all 50 states have to shut down their government.
how does anarchy sound?

Why would States have to shut down their governments?
If the head government has to shut down, all the subordinate ones have to follow suite.
this is the united states after all
The federal government exists at the pleasure of the States, not the other way around...

you honestly think the federal government's failure will not have repercussion's at the state level?
