(Bloomberg) - For the first time since at least the 1990s, China hasn’t bought any US soybeans at the start of the export season

Maybe the media in states like Illinois and Iowa should be asking why Trump & Co are spending time and energy harassing a talk show while soybean farmers are about to lose their livelihoods.

Well, US soybean products should get cheaper, which is kinda ironic when you consider the rightwing's aversion to soy.
A tofu turkey for Thanksgiving.

Trump "fuxed over" the American farmer for the second time.

Whoopsie.

And guess where the revenue from his tariffs will go? If we don't learn from history, we are bound to repeat it...

Yeah, I think the farmers will get their relief in the form of tariff revenue, or MAGA is going to have a riot on their hands.

So I guess we can dispense with the idea that tariffs are going to be used to close deficit then, right?

That was never going to happen...

Trump reminds me of some of the people in these big multi-table poker tournaments I like to play. He comes in splashing American wealth and power everywhere. They do that with chips. People fold 'cause you don't know quite at first and unless you're sitting on a monster, it's generally a good idea to get out of the way and figure them out (not 100% of the time, but y'know). So they do well at first. I don't see them at or anywhere near the final table when I get there.

He's not doing it because of strategy and neither are they. The entirety of his thought is "this is a show of power. They should fold!" And when they don't anymore, he has no idea what to do next.

Problem is... China has the bigger stack, long term. And unlike poker, the vast majority of things we could do to take their stack will reduce both our stacks.

And he has no idea what he's doing

Exactly. Great analogy.

Well, soybean futures should eventually collapse. They oddly haven't yet this year though.

Can’t even tell soybean farmers to “learn to code” or something because there’s no jobs in anything right now.

Those soy boys wanted this, so now they get to learn that elections have consequences.
