Nice piece by Killer Mike about the need for black Americans to arm themselves.

In fact, following Arbery's death, I issued a statement urging Black people and people of color to take seriously their Second Amendment rights. I was urging people who look like me to take seriously shooting, training, and the protection of our rights.

Consequently, my message to Black people across the country is the same today as it was a year ago: the only person you can count on to protect yourself and your family is you. God gave you the right to use whatever tools are available to defend your rights.

The challenge is for Black people, Black media and allies to normalize gun ownership. We should be highlighting and showcasing responsible gun owners. We should be looking to Black organizations such as the National African American Gun Association, which offers firearms training, self-defense training and other services. They understand the cultural nuances of gun ownership and speak directly to our needs.

I want to challenge my community to seek out responsible gun owners and talk to them about why they chose to arm themselves. Further, even as groups attempt to reduce gun violence, we should be careful not to villainize responsible and legal gun owners or people interested in gun ownership. The last thing that any of us need is more laws that will criminalize us.

Gun ownership among the black population is low compared to whites. While 36% of whites own a gun, only 24% of blacks and just 15% of Hispanics own a firearm. Those are rookie numbers they need to pump those numbers up.

I've been advocating more minorities and women embrace the 2nd Amendment and buy guns and learn how to use them.

Can you explain how you can legally prevent an officer from doing something, even if that something is breaking the law ?

I go to gun shows, shooting ranges, and shooting events all the time around my area. There are almost as many minorities attending gun shows, and range practice facilities as whites.

Minorities buy firearms for the same reason as whites.

Why does it need to be a race issue?

Clearly you know nothing about the law.

Please quote any law that says it is legal for a citizen to determine a police officer is acting illegally and prevent him from continuing.

I'll give you a hint. There aren't any...there are NO provisions for a citizen to interfere with a police officer whatever the circumstances.

Caveat: Unless of course he/she was that cop's boss like the mayor or governor.

I think what you just said implies the "white senators and representatives" are white gun thugs? Is that it? Yeah since you said it it probably is.
Besides what does that have to do with this?
I say it's good they were there, but not intimidating anyone as you suggest.

But just remember, when that happens, watch as the NRA and the Republicans turn 180 and demand "gun laws" just like when Reagan wet his pants and rammed The Mulford Act through in California.

Never forget who it was that REALLY took guns, it was Republicans...white Republicans who were terrified at the thought of black people arming themselves and protecting what's theirs.

That is not entirely truthful-just as many white Democrats supported that Mulford Act and that was about the last time White Republicans were in favor of gun control laws. White Democrats are responsible for EVERY federal gun restriction on the books.

I completely agree.

Of course...their context is stupid beyond words...but I DO believe with the sentiment and support and am a member of an emerging group that promotes responsible firearm ownership and use...the National African American Gun Association. they are growing in numbers daily and planned to hold their first ever annual conference this year, in Atlanta. That is all on hold right now.

Not necessarily. They might have been at home expecting the flatfoots to do their job. Or, they might have been outnumbered and not wanting to pull the trigger. Or, all kinds of things. So no, a gun isn't a guarantee.
