As a white liberal running in a majority African American district, Tennessee Democrat Stephen I. Cohen made a novel pledge on the campaign trail last year: If elected, he would seek to become the first white member of the Congressional Black Caucus.
Now that he's a freshman in Congress, Cohen has changed his plans. He said he has dropped his bid after several current and former caucus members made it clear to him that whites need not apply.
"I think they're real happy I'm not going to join," said Cohen, who succeeded Rep. Harold Ford, D-Tenn., in the Memphis district. "It's their caucus and they do things their way. You don't force your way in. You need to be invited."
Cohen said he became convinced that joining the caucus would be "a social faux pas" after seeing news reports that former Rep. William Lacy Clay Sr., D-Mo., a co-founder of the caucus, had circulated a memo telling members it was "critical" that the group remain "exclusively African-American."

I do not believe that any person is better than anyone else by virtue of their Race, Color, Background or Religion and I suspect that those who have posted before me on this thread think likewise.
Should they have a different belief than what I am saying is fairly pointless to them.
The only reason a club, however exclusive is set up, is to propose views that are in agreement with all club members, thus one has / had those who espouse racism such as the KKK or the Neo-Nazis.
On the other side we have this so called Black Caucus.
All these clubs have the same ideal in common, namely promotion of their own beliefs, those beliefs to be exposed to as many of their adherents as possible, as well as influencing those who actions may be pursuaded to enhance their beliefs to their advantage.
In setting up a Black Caucus these people are guilty of the practise of Racism as much if not more than those of the KKK or Neo-Nazi's, in fact there is little to distinguish between either side.
Prejudice and Racism is practised as much by the Black Caucus as it is by the KKK or Neo-Nazi and it is to most people equally distasteful.
The fact that these Black Politicians can be freely elected largely by virtue of
White Politicians recognising that all people ARE created equal and enforcing that Constitutional Law.
It is not surprising that this Caucus has been set up, as it was no no surprise to see the KK or Neo-Nzi clubs, each particular club wishing to force it's particular viewpoint onto society.
Unless and until people learn that it is their best interests to cooperate with each other we shall continue to have dissent within our society.
Having divergent views is natural and will continue, but divergent views because of Race, Religion, Background or Color will in the end be the cause of our downfall.
This is hilarious, liberals here love to think that the democratic party isnt full of racists...yet the biggest black liberal caucus proves them wrong....again........
What if this was a group of rich white conservative politicians that wouldn't allow a black conservative member to join?.....they would be labeled racist by the same people that think its OK for a rich black liberal democrats to show bigotry to a white liberal.........
Come on those who love to use the race card here......tell us how these racist liberals and part of the democratic party, justified this blatant racist denial of a white liberal into their ranks because of his skin color...................

It's a relatively minor point, and largely a matter of semantics, but, strictly speaking, the Congressional Black Caucus is not racist.
Racism is a belief that one race is inherently superior, genetically, to another, ie that the "other" race is not...quite...fully human.
Bigotry, on the other hand, is simply a dislike for, and a desire to not associate with, another race.
The congressional black caucus is bigoted, not racist.
Please don't act like the Republican Party is full of EOE humane individuals seeking American and human solidarity. Americans have this nasty reality of solely viewing within black and white. Worst if your skin tone isn't "primary".This is hilarious, liberals here love to think that the democratic party isnt full of racists...yet the biggest black liberal caucus proves them wrong....again........

Ok, I was just trying to get some of the liberals here to explain why this is happening when they claim there is no racism in the democrat party.
Super post, Hatuey.
I do try but it's hard when 90% of everything posted before I is partisanship.
Hows it hanging?
I know. That's what I like about your post...didn't smell anything like it.
Busy, but cool.
Man, I'm about as anti-NAACP nonesense as you'll see in anyone, but this argument is ridiculous. The Black Caucus is an interest group, and it, like any other interest group, discriminates against those who do not share those interests. Although on specific points there may be white people who agree, the fact of the matter is that, when dealing with reality, there are differences between growing up white and growing up black, cetaris paribus, and from that there are black interests. In the same way I can't join the teachers union, white people can't join the black causus. This isn't racism, it just seems like racism, as they tend to walk a very fine line, and they tend to end up on the side of racism (but not in this particular case).
They were simply formed to protect the interests of African Americans in the U.S.
They were formed to advance the interests and voice the issues concerning African Americans and African Americans alone.
