"What I am doing is putting together what I believe to be the most comprehensive and meaningful set of initiatives to make it very, very difficult for Mr. Putin to go ahead and do what people are worried he's going to do," Biden said, without going into detail....
As he departed for a weekend trip to Camp David later on Friday, Biden told reporters: "We’re aware of Moscow ’s actions for a long time and my expectation is we’re going to have a long discussion with Putin."

"I don’t accept anybody’s red lines," he said of Moscow ’s demands

""I don’t accept anybody’s red lines," he said of Moscow ’s demands" great move, good signal to Moscow despot .

"Biden said, without going into detail..." guys, any idea what includes Biden´s plan to stop Moscow barbaric imperialism ?

Is it called operation "Afghanistan v. 2.0?" or "Illegal immigration plan?"

Biden? create a plan? That's gone swimmingly well his first 10 - 11 months in office. Is he planning to bring in Hunter, who was on the board of Ukrainian energy company and probably established some relationships?

Good to finally see a president who actually treats russia like the enemy they are. The Russians will do all they can to make sure a Dem loses in 2022 & 2024---so far their propaganda is being believed by most trumpers. Putin wants trump, or one of his cult members in office again.....

A master plan from the people who brought the US Mexico border crisis, the botched evacuation of Afghanistan, and the French diplomacy plan. What could go wrong?

"evacuation of Afghanistan," we left Afghanistan and now its a Moscow problem(y), whats wrong with it? Afghanistan has 0 strategical value for us...

The propoganda has always appealed to the trump/ far right wing crowd.

The Russians have been inserting their message into right wing media for almost a decade now.

And it is being parroted by right wingers on this board on a more or less regular basis.

Right winger tend to take the message for granted, because it appeals to and mirrors the same divisive message American right wing media feeds on. They just amplify the regular right wing themes of ethnic resentment, jingoism, and bigotry. All of which exist in Russian society too.

The Russians had a natural advantage with this audience, as it is never curious about who is feeding them any message, as long as it is what they want to hear. They also have very short attention spans and sort memories. Ideal for a propgandist.

How the US responds to the Russian posture depends a lot of whether they can get strong backing from NATO, after four years of Trump denigrating the organization and attacking its members.

They know that Russia is an enemy. It has been for hundreds of years, and the geography hasn’t changed.

What they worry about is whether the US will be a reliable ally.

When Biden responds strongly to Russian aggression in Ukraine, I have little doubt that right wing social media and its safe spaces like Parker and Telegram will be flooded with a right wing themes intended to turn the audience to opposed standing up to Russian aggression. And it will be embraced and parroted by parts of the late trump nation.

Pathetic, parochial, partisan and off topic.

The Russians are massing an army on the Ukrainian border, and you and your ilk are sour grasping about Hunter and “French diplomacy”.

The Russians are going to test the Western Alliance.

They have spent a decade softening up right wing Americna public opinion with appeals to nativism, ignorance, and bigotry.

And they finally backed a US Presidential candidate who made those themes the focus of his campaign.

The went from having a guy they practically owned, to having to deal with a seasoned, practiced world leader who owes them nothing, and who recognizes where his duty lies.

One thing Moscow can be sure of. They won’t be dealing with a fool who says things like this:

Good for Russia. If only Biden could mass troops on the Mexican border.

Biden has been begging Russia to produce more oil so we can put dollars into their coffers as he does everything he can to shut down US oil. How is that “treating Russia like an enemy “?

Russia sees a weak US president that botched the Afghanistan pullout and have been emboldened to invade Ukraine. Biden brought this on with his fumbling bumbling Afghanistan debacle. Russia-Putin think he’s a joke.

With enemies like Biden Russia doesn't need anymore US friends. Enemy Biden has been more generous to Putin's coffers than the oft claimed Putin friend Trump.

You know the long term Kremlin foreign policy strategy? Give us Biden, then another Obama clone, or Mama Kamala, followed by young Hunter. We can do good business with them.

“Central Asian states though will be nervous that Moscow might use the threat of Islamist insurgency to push its Eurasian Union idea and centralising agenda that Putin is pursuing across the CIS spacelook at Belarus,” Ash said, noting that this comes ahead of the 30th anniversary of the collapse of the USSR in December this year.

Russia is expected to ratchet up the pressure on countries in Central Asia"

I think this is to put pressure on the US and Ukraine, to ensure that Ukraine never gets NATO protection. That way, they can continue to meddle in Ukraine's internal politics and redirect them away from the EU and back more firmly into Russia's political orbit.

I'm on the fence is to whether Russia actually wants a full-on confrontation. It's not necessarily in Vladimir Putin's political interests to get Russia tied up in a messy conflict, particularly if the US makes good on a commitment to support Ukraine and punish Russia with a combination of economic, military, and political force. Obviously, we won't put boots on the ground to save Ukraine's ass but we could give them weapons. We'd also try to politically isolate Russia even further, and the Western European nations would almost certainly support us if we did. Russia would have some hard power leverage through the Winter with its energy resources, but the tables would probably turn as we get into spring and summer.

If suspect that if Russia can get the West to back away from a hard commitment to protecting Ukraine, then we'd probably see Russia ease off a bit. That puts Biden in a difficult spot, particularly after the fallout from his perceived failures in handling the Afghanistan withdrawal. He's on dangerously shaky ground with some of the national security contingent which voted for him b/c they thought Trump was a clear and present danger to the U.S. future standing but are alarmed at Biden's reactions to global crises so far. Afghanistan caused him to lose some of that contingent and if he is perceived as weak in the face of Russian aggression, he's going to have a hard time living it down.

It's unfortunate b/c this is a classic example of how a nation can become addicted to political orthodoxy that eventually becomes counterproductive. What we need with regard to Russia and Ukraine is flexibility and pragmatism. Ukraine is not our fight; they're not a NATO country. That doesn't mean we should feed them to Russian wolves, but we need to be realistic about our goals. They had an opportunity to join NATO earlier, and did not. We cannot be a global security force.

What the POTUS really means is that its Kamala and Nancy who is crafting this plan...

This administration got out, but the evacuation was botched horribly. Biden didn't make the decision to leave - that was actually Trump. All Biden had to do was shoo the last few guests out of the room and close the door.

That is a sober and accurate analysis.
