Biden is getting a bad rap in the news alleging that he really means that African American's have no diversity, like the Hispanics .

And we know that is not what he meant because Biden has already made it very clear that among African Americans there are some that are not even Black:

What biden said is true politically. Blacks vote about 90% Democrat and about 65% Latinos vote democrat. Why is it controversial to point out that reality?

Progressives are not upset about what he said. They know its true. No different than Romney said about 40% of the electorate would not vote for him no matter what in 2012. Its an unspoken truth that makes them uncomfortable yo openly admit.
The truth is that a greater majority of blacks vote for democrats than latinos. The only thing biden did was openly admit that in public.
