Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont told CNN that lying about Social Security “is a prelude not only to cutting benefits, but to privatizing Social Security itself.” By making the system appear dysfunctional, then “why would anybody want to support it?”
DOGE aims to cut 12% of the Social Security Administration (SSA) workforce, reducing staff from 57,000 to 50,000. It’s also consolidating 10 regional offices down to four and closing 45 field offices across the country, according to Government Executive.
A leaked email from SSA’s acting commissioner Leland Dudek, published by The Bulwark, sparked fresh fears about privatization.
The March 1 email to staff stated they need to “revitalize SSA operations by streamlining activities” and “outsource nonessential functions to industry experts.”

Bernie Sanders is using baseless fear to agitate insecure people.

Bernie Sanders is being honest and informative, you obviously have a struggle recognizing that.

You'd rather blindly have faith in a criminal traitor who has lied so much in his life for selfish reasons, that it has deservedly become his trademark.

Intelligent adults can differentiate truth from fiction. The only ones stoking fear in the American public and around the world is the Musk/Vance/trump Fascist regime, he demands blind loyalty from people like you, it works for him and it works for other dictators like Putin whose mission is also to destroy America and democracy.

I agree with the sentiment that even Trump fascists wouldn't DARE touch social security. But that's true only insofar as wise statesmen like Bernie Sanders and AOL are vigilant. Fascists know that the ONLY way to give tax cuts to billionaires without getting us into a recession would be to cut Social Security. Firing all the educators, USAid workers, CIA operatives, ... stopping construction projects... All of that will BARELY be enough to reduce the tax to Elon Musk, Trump.... and a couple of their donors.

So finding ways to cut Social Security is always on their mind. We need people like Sanders to constantly make them aware that We The People will not stand for it.
 
The don't have to 'cut' SS, just make it more difficult to collect.

By shutting down offices, and cutting staff, applying for SS benefits like disability will become a drawn out nightmare and many who paid into the system their whole lives will walk away in frustration. Instant savings.

Well said, thank you. I am one of many who have worked all my adult life and paid into Social Security, has retired and is now receiving my benefits. I don't want to see thieves, traitors and criminals touching Social Security or any other earned benefits of the American Worker. Stealing from the poor or middle class to give to the billionaires and fat cat con men, criminal and disgusting..
