(Axios) U.S. will send tariffs letters in coming days, deals not needed, Trump says
--
"We made deals, but I'd rather just send them a letter, a very fair letter, saying 'congratulations, we're going to allow you to trade in the United States of America, you're going to pay a 25% tariff, or 20%, or 40 or 50%.' I would rather do that," Trump said on Fox News' "Sunday Morning Futures."
What I wanted to do is, and what I will do just — sometime prior to the 9th — is we'll send a letter to all these countries," he added.

If Trump is to be believed, he has "made deals" "with all the countries", but prefers to simply send them letters unilaterally, ostensibly ending the trade war and the "deals".

I myself can't quite get past the "If Trump is to be believed" part, but perhaps you may.

He can't.

Yeah, I mean when do we simply put him off to a shelve on the side, and ignore him?

I suppose we can't, given that he's the President; and at a moment's Tweet, can change our lives collectively and individually. It's kinda' like being locked-in in a torture horror show.

Yep, so who are these "hundreds of countries" ringing the phone off the hook, begging Trump for deals? That's what he told us, right? Trump couldn't possibly be lying; perish the thought!

Given how frequently Trump has announced only to back down from tariffs, I have a bit of a hard time seeing him stick through with these.

I think he knows he can say whatever nonsense he wants, and half the country will sing his praises. He can spin them like tops. And they're the only ones that count.

Trump is a bad person, a bad leader, and a bad negotiator.

He’s a television star. He’s pretending to be President just like he pretended to be a successful businessman on tv. If he lived before the invention of the television he’d be a carnival barker or a snake oil salesman. Or, as the case was with respect to his grandfather, he’d be managing whorehouses.

The Japanese already told us what he’s doing in stark terms.

Bribe the president to get a “deal”.

I hope the free world holds strong and tells the traitor to get ****ed.

I remember when us Yanks used to laugh & poke jokes at the nonsense we saw often occurring in the British Parliament, particularly in the raucous House of Commons. "How can they govern like that?", we would say.

Well my dear snakestretcher, it would very much seem the shoe is now on the other foot!

Unfortunately, we Americans, and our culture, created him. Trump's the ultimate expression of American commercial media culture. "Dem's the truth", my friend. Like it, or not. He is us.

It worked for the Qatari!

The great deal maker...right! Oh and "Sir", as you like to call yourself, they aren't paying those costs Americans are. The fact that some consider him a great negotiator is laughable. What happened to all those countries kissing his ass for a deal ? My sense is he thinks this will scare them into selling out their countries. That's not going to happen. Every country has a right to protect the interests of their people.

I cannot tell you how good it feels to have a confident, focused leader in our country who will do what's right for Canada , will give some to get some, but he will not sell us out. He is not afraid of Trump.

Thank you for your attention in this matter.

So he couldn’t get ‘deals’.
So now he claims he doesn’t need ‘deals’.
Why does sound like he’s trying to set up a drug buy in a back alley?

Another day another story. Trump world.

He's pushing to the point where reality dissolves, and we don't pay attention anymore because we can no longer discern reality from fantasy, and he can pillage to his heart's content right out in the open. Actually, he's pretty much there - I think.

I'm surprised Carney folded so easily on the Services Tax, though.

Haha!

No. He claims he has the deals. He just doesn't want them.

There's a difference, you know. Ask him!

I don't think he did. I think he has simply paused it to keep talks going. It's not his policy, it was Trudeau's . It's quite unpopular in business circles in Canada. My sense is he wasn't in love with it in the first place. We'll see where it goes but I think he was right to pause them in order to keep talks going. His style so far has been to placate and humour Trump rather than rile him while at the same time moving ahead quite publicly with other alliances.

I'll trust your judgement in this, as I just saw headline but didn't delve into any articles.

I have little doubt Carney is way smarter than Trump.

Trump is really the worst thing available: A stupid, unprincipled, impetuous man, given the reins of supreme power unrestrained & unfettered.

As terrible as I feel for America, I feel just as badly for the world itself. To think we're putting the entire globe through this? It's disgusting.
