One way to execute on this would be to laser-focus on just 2 or 3 Senate seats and 8 to 10 House districts. Given the razor-thin legislative margins, that would be enough to serve as the deciding vote on contentious laws, ensuring that they serve the true will of the people.

After the "Big beautiful Bill" passed Congress, Elon Musk took to Tweeting his strategy for rolling-out his new "American Party" challenging the two dominate political parties.

Apparently Musk is considering targeting 2-3 key Senate races, along with 8-10 key House districts. Given the current tight electoral margins, he believes that that's all it takes to determine "legislative will" (read: flip Congressional chambers).

It's a novel approach.

He'll find out what Democrats have known for a long time. It is tough to get voters lured away from emotional wedge issues by using common sense and logic.

Musk is not very popular. He is unlikely to be able to lure voters away from the Dysfunctional Donald cult. The cult loves him and will vote however he says. It's strange they see Musk as a greedy rich guy but for some reason they are able to overlook Dysfunctional Donald's greed and wealth. Is that because they can identify with someone who talks like a dufus?

He may have a point. I have often said a third party should not start with a Presidential candidate but rather grow organically in the House and Senate.

They‘ll need a new “opposition” party for their political theater when they incarcerate all the democrats into their concentration camps.

This will only be a "maga part 2"

Musk is talking about targeting key races to flip Congressional chambers. Polling (in post #2) shows he has good support among Republican men.

Works for me! (y)

The fact that both parties are unpopular certainly raises the potential for the rise of a third party, but it seems unlikely that Musk might be the person to make this happen in any kind of significant way. He's got the power of money, but he's not very popular. Can his money succeed where is mouth fails?

That's the problem with the current parties. They are both bought by big money. It's hard to imagine how a third party devoted to big money is going to get very popular.

Most Americans know our government is bought by big money. What we need to do is pass resolutions in support of the Anti-Corruption Act in as many local cities and counties possible. That will send the message far and wide that we are tired of our government being bought; and we want better candidates who are not beholden to big money. We can gradually replace Congress with true representatives who will listen to their Constituents and eventually pass new Anti Corruption legislation and even Constitutional Amendments overturning Citizens United.

It's been suggested before.

I think he has a great point.

My take on his Tweet is he's not starting a national third part per se,, as much as strategically offering a third-party spoiler candidate to influence key elections in determining the legislative chambers.

We do this all the time locally. In our case, a deal is cut with the spoiler candidate where they end-up with an administrative post or lucrative contract. The spoiler is often covertly financed and resourced by the candidate desiring his assistance. The spoiler isn't there to win. They're there to throw the election. Similar to the effect of Ross Perot (1992) or Ralph Nader (2000).

He's only going to make Trump/MAGA stronger if he follows through with this idea. He should back Democratic candidates because they make a lot more sense to his bottom line. The problem is, Musk wants to be a bigot without consequence, and that's something the Democrats won't tolerate.

No appeal for anyone outside the fringe right.

MAGA won't remove their lips from Taco's ass.

Musk is just too damned weird.

Dead in the water before it starts.
You'd end up with the Democrats, the extreme right Republicans and a new party founded by a guy who gives actual nazi salutes.

Yeah this is an excellent idea 🙄

You don't think Musk might be able to spoil some (hopefully key) races?

That sounds great, except big money likes having government in its pocket and government loves the big money gravy train.

The only time bipartisan accord will occur is in both parties' resistance to anything threatening that.

I think whatever chance of that exists only in the GOP primaries. And even then it's a slim chance given MAGAs blind loyalty to Taco. Are there enough non MAGAs on the right left?

I'm becoming sorry I didn't include more opinion in my OP.

This has the potential to help Dems. Musk seems to be looking to field "spoiler" Senate & House candidates. He's attempting to use the mechanism of strategically placed third-party candidates to flip chambers to influence legislation.

This appears to be strategic at the local levels, not national en masse.

It's a great idea, but the complication is identifying a platform. I don't know if Musk is the best guy to do this. What is needed is a platform of policy issues that eschew the excesses and insanity of the 2 national parties, while still appealing to enough people to win an election. It won't help if they can't get anyone elected, and unfortunately, "rational" may be too boring to excite anyone.

I dunno'. I've seen third-party spoilers becoming very effective in my local politics.

Remember, you're not going to get MAGA to vote Dem. But some may go to Musk-MAGA. It only takes a couple points.

It's an "excellent" idea from where I'm sitting, if his candidates can pull any MAGA votes!

Unfortunately, he's a neoNazi. The GOP is the only place for him.

I would be reluctant to join a political party that's controlled by one man.

While he’s welcome to do all this Im not in favor of someone who came here as an adult manipulating our politics.

Let them do what they may. The Anti Corruption movement is already up and running. Big money isn't going to stop it but it would be funny to see them make a public issue out of support for corruption.

Yes. Let them make a very public fight against the American Anti Corruption Act. They might as well take a very public position in favor of corruption. Everybody already knows they are bought.

That will only bring more attention to the quite viable plan to get the big money out of Congress.
