Yeah. The DA also made a statement about this being another example of why we need gun control.

The gun the suspect used was stolen a little over a year ago....from the cops.

This comes on the heels of the arrest of a Muslim refugee who was trying to join Isis and the San Bernardino attack just last month.
We're sitting on a powder keg here. How many more violent attacks need to happen before Obama addresses Islam the same way he's pursuing gun control?

Goes to show the need for biometrics and technology wrt gun control. If the coppers had a "find my gun" app this might never had happened

One hell of an Officer, shot, seriously wounded, gave chase, being shot at, wounded the XXX.
His ability and wherewithal, where a person digs deep inside to pull that extra from, to give chase, while seriously wounded may, or in all probability did save other lives.
That is one hell of an Officer.
The Officer father stated his son was a tough guy, indeed he is.
I hope for a speedy, full & healthy recovery.
To me this Officer is indeed a hero.

The Iraq effect. US intell informed us as long ago as 2004 that following the invasion of Iraq that Islamic extremists began flowing in, and the FBI has also reported that there are sleeper cells in all 50 states! If that's all true, not only is it not just Obama's fault, but when these cells decide to wake up and go into action, one would think we'd see things more like 9/11, in multiples, and not the more trivial attacks like today's.

My ass it does - the only reason the cop is alive is because he was able to return fire.

Geezus, how awful. And that picture gives me the chills. That officer is damn lucky to be alive.

And damn brave for getting out and stopping that diseased piece of **** from shooting more cops or civilians in the "name of Islam".

The numbers and intensity of attacks will increase. This is going to be a long slow war.
The hotbed where they thrive is the ME. And yes, Iraq/ Astan/Libya all have blow back. But so do the regimes in power. They keep on creating more terrorists. look at Sisi in Egypt. Kills 1, creates 10 more.
Iraq - Previous PM created the conditions for ISIL to grow, same with Syria's civil war.
Each sect hates the other, Saudi-Iran - well they keep on adding more fuel to the fire.

Biometrics are a great idea for guns. Wouldn't it be fantastic to have the cops show up to save your sorry ass from some guy with a real gun only to find out he's got to replace the battery and reboot before he can get his gun to fire?

Luckily the shooter was a total moron - 13 really close range shot at a stationary target and only 3 non-lethal hits.

Oh I agree with you about Arab culpability. But I'm an American. I live here, sleep here, make political donations here, write letters to my representatives, vote, pay taxes and will die here. I want America to stop being its part of the problem. And one more thing. I speak in terms of degree. For example, president Assad was a harsh ruler, but, 23 million Syrians largely went about their daily lives, the Christian community was fully protected by him, the antiquities were safe, and the grocery store shelves were full. I preferred that degree of order. Well really two more things. Ted Cruz, that dude from Calgary that you don't want back (and I don't blame you, lol) said something I actually agree with recently. He told the AP that we shouldn't have regime changed Hussein, Mubarak or Gaddafi and that we should stop attempting so with Assad.

I remember a story in the Lewis and Clark journals about an instance when Lewis, alone, shot a buffalo. He walked up to the beast lying there bleeding out its mouth and recorded that he stood over it in somewhat of a trance, contemplating that his shot must have penetrated the lungs. At this moment, upon hearing a noise he looked to his left and observed a grizzly bear in full trot approaching at a near distance. He immediately knew that he had violated the rule. He had failed to recharge his weapon immediately upon discharging it. His only safety was that the Missouri River, with sufficiently deep water lay only a few yards in the opposite direction of the approaching bear where he successfully retreated.

There's a moral in there.

My reasonable proposal is that every year (select a date) - police engineers are required to change out batteries.

Too be fair to the shooter most gun owners are lousy shots and couldn't kill a person standing in front of them to save their lives. The only own a gun cause they're terrified.

That makes him no different than the President who shed tears rattling off a list of tragic shooting incidents knowing the proposals he made would have zero bearing on any of those incidents. No shame. They have no ****ing shame.

I'm glad the cop is OK.

So how would you know if " most gun owners are lousy shots "?

I believe the pres does know that short of taking everybody's guns away, there's likely no way to stop these horrific shootings, and I believe his tears are genuine and that he's genuinely frustrated that he's had to rise to the occasion of addressing the citizens of America far more times than any other president now and offer up those pitiful words, our hearts go out to the sufferings of the families, and our prayers are with you. I think you might at least acknowledge that.

There was a ground breaking study of US troops in the second world war which suggested that a significant proportion of US front line combat troops never fired their guns - and military training was adjusted as a result.

So an interesting question to ask is how many gun owners when confronted with a situation that would have justified defensive gun use - didn't.

With 30% of the US population owning guns and about 10,000 gun related homicides a year (and another 20,000+ suicides) you have to ask why don't the good guys use their guns?

Are they scared?
Do they leave them at home?
Do they freeze?
Or in the moment o truth do they realize that they don't want to go into the line of fire?

Is the right to bear arms, bravado for sunday shooting day, but when it comes to real life it's left to the SWAT teams. Or is there something more that I have totally missed?
