I am still waiting for them to discover a species from the movie Deep Rising.

Once again, it seems we know more about space than our own oceans.

I'm still waiting on them to find that underwater alien base! ;)

Deep sea mountains are a bit like isolated islands. Evolution is accelerated by the relatively small and isolated ecosystem.

There's a lot more of space. So if you measure "how much we know" by proportion of what there is to know, then we're actually more ignorant of space.

Get back to me when we identify ONE new species from space!

I look forward to that day. It will be one of the greatest discoveries of science.

Life on Mars ... around some other sun. Definitely it would be a big deal, and a whole lot of people would stop believing Genesis. But the real revolution would be in changing our ideas about how life on Earth began. Currently there's a big gap between amino acids and DNA.

Before it happens, we should be wary of the Oxygen indicator: NASA source. Oxygen probably means life, but not necessarily.

Elon says he's an alien, but no one will listen!😁

Scientologists and Raëlists believe in interventionist aliens, but to me it just seems like displacement. God alone is not a sufficient explanation.

Elon is not an alien. He's just a very naughty boy!

Life might exist on Jupiter's moons too. Life on Earth either originated on Earth or via panspermia. Amino acids is the basis of proteins, which also make up organic Life. Oxygen alone is not an indicator of actual life. But it is a starting point, as known organisms either produce oxygen or consume it.

You're correct on every point. But from what we know, we're looking for oxygen when really it is a bit perverse that plants give up oxygen. It's immensely useful to life (in fact plants also use it). But it's conceivable that alien "animals" could feed on alien "plants" without needing atmospheric oxygen.

Our scientists have detected other gasses, on exoplanets. I'm just concerned that oxygen will be announced, and then ten years waiting for the origin of that oxygen. Ten years is a century for conspiracy theorists. Oxygen on exoplanets is not proof of life there.

As I said, oxygen alone isn't enough. It's just a starting point. The presence of water is a better indicator of life. I couldn't care less what conspiracy theorists think. They should be dismissed outright.

And how many of these biomes do you suppose humans have already destroyed before they were found?

It's good to see. We're killing off species at a terrible rate, but at least finding some also. Plug for Center for Biological Diversity deserving support to try to reduce extinctions. Good to also see some protection for some sea areas.
