At least 16 people killed and 400 injured in Kenyan protests

At least 16 people have been killed and 400 injured in Kenya as a nationwide demonstration to honour those killed during last year’s anti-government protests turned chaotic, with police clashing with protesters in different parts of the country.


Amnesty Kenya’s executive director, Irũngũ Houghton, said the death toll had been verified by the government-funded Kenya national commission on human rights. “Most were killed by police,” he said.


A joint statement from groups supporting the protests said 83 people were seriously injured and at least eight people were being treated for gunshot wounds.


“We pray for our nation, dialogue and a way forward from the political impasse facing Kenya,” said the statement from the Law Society of Kenya (LSK), the Police Reforms Working Group and the Kenya Medical Association.

According to the article, most of the people were apparently killed by police for daring to protest a prior protest in which protesters were killed.

So this is basically an African BLM Protest. This is horrible, but then, at least you got to stand on some black corpses to make fun of domestic opposition to police violence. Congratulations are in order I suppose?

I saw this story come out, noted nothing mentioned about it, and drew up this post with a provocative comment on it to get a reading on where people stood. And I have to say, I’ve been absolutely underwhelmed by the outpouring of leftist compassion. On the other hand, the comments directed at me aren’t surprising. Your comment is #5, and was posted in the middle of the night almost seven hours ago. Why do you suppose that is? Could it perhaps be that it wasn’t racist white cops or Western imperialists loading live ammunition into guns and shooting and killing scores of black people protesting the shooting of other black people in a prior protest against police brutality? Rather, it was Kenya’s black nationalist government doing it? And they don’t really want to talk about that now, do they? It doesn’t exactly fit any narrative they support, especially because it wasn’t white people gunning down blacks in cold blood, but other blacks. It’s disgusting.

It was an important point that needed to be made: leftist sympathy for the “oppressed” is ever so much bullshit. It extends only as far as it can serve as a cudgel to tear down Western society and institutions, such as the U.S.’ “systemically racist” justice system.

Sure. Of course I'm unaware that the US is supplying weapons directly to the people killing people in Kenya but I know that Israel gets significant aid and weapons from us so I'm not sure why you bring in a dissimilar situation
