Assailants stab, beat Christian worshippers outside of Indonesia's capital

And we'll end up in the same scenario unless we face the fact that "freedom of religion" isn't a good thing when a religion wants to take over you're country and subjugate its population.

Wow, you've come to the same conclusion as the terrorists. Interesting how much you are alike with them.

Wow. That was a pretty incoherent post. Nothing about Afghanistan specifically in that list but duh 42% of your terrorism is from Latino groups or people. If logic took over where would you put most of your resources?

I think it is kind of telling that if as you say this preacher almost started World War III, then exactly how does that make us want to feel all warm and fuzzy about Muslims in general. But we, meaning the U.S., are supposed to believe that most Muslims are peace loving and therefore not be judgemental when the latest Muslim shoe bomber tries to blow up a jet. What this preacher was about to do was trivial and not worth anybody's attention or outrage. He should have been ignored and Muslims throughout the world understanding that this is just some random nut who doesn't represent the view of most Americans.

Comparing the preacher incident to the mosque controversy in New York is silly.

Islam teaches contempt for non muslims and is a political movement more than a religious movement. In this country there is separation of church and state. Muslims are constantly practicing what they preach by actions like this incident throughout the world and of course more significant evil. Of course they will say otherwise.

Will we judge them by what they say or what they do. This Rauf in NY is quite willing to spit in the face of the residents of NYC demonstrating the spite Islam has taught him is appropriate while stating that he is for respecting other peoples and religions. Our government has found him to be some of the best that Islam has to offer and named him an ambassador. I'm not impressed! He is duplicitous and is not a moderate Muslim.

Where did you get THAT number from? You do realize that this is about three times the total population of Indonesia, the world's fourth most populous country...

85% of about 235 million does NOT equal 683 million...

I'm thinking of converting to that peaceful religion.

Wow, you've come to the same conclusion as the terrorists. Interesting how much you are alike with them.

So you're saying that Ric is a terrorist?

Back to the topic of the OP, I am increasingly concerned that SBY is doing little to curb the rise of Islamic extremism in Indonesia. It used to be limited to two pockets, most notably in Aceh, in the country, but it seems to be spreading to Java and other islands in the core region of the country as well. SBY relies so much on the growing phonemena of political Islam in the country, that he doesn't dare crack down for fear of losing their electoral support. While there are five official religions in the country, and in most of the country they have lived in peace with one another, Islam IS 85% of the population. A large majority of Indonesians still wish to live in peace with their Catholic, Protestant, Hindu and Buddhist neighbors, but radical Islam is gaining in intensity in the country. SBY and other politicians need to step up against it or the pancasila dream of decades in the country and the motto of "Unity Amidst Diversity" are truly in danger of going by the wayside.
