Assad claiming he is going to liberate every inch of Syria. I wonder if this includes Rojava? If he does want Rojava I believe the Kurds are claiming the must be given some sort of autonomy in their own liberated region. One thing is for sure, is that this "liberation" Assad is claiming will come about will not happen over night and will most likely to years and years to come.

Hillary Clinton is determined to flood the country with terrorists.

Assad is that bully Putin's client. If Putin calls it liberation, it is liberation. Unless, of course, he crosses a line that Obama left in the sand.

Do you think if they "liberate" much of central and western Syria, do you think they will move the war into Rojava and try to take back Rojava by force or do you think some sort of deal will be made between the Kurds and the Syrian state?

I suspect that the Assad clan will want it all and will take it, if the chance presents itself. If Assad does not do it, he will loose credibility and legitimacy as a clan patriarch. As I also suspect that Putin would prefer a more solid base for his arrangements, he would probably like Assad to be firmly in the saddle.

I know you didn't ask me, but I think Assad would have no problem reconquering Rojava if he had the power to do so, considering his racist and oppressive policies towards the Kurds before the war. Putin, on the other hand, has no real interests in subjugating Rojava, and turning the Syrian Kurds into an enemy after portraying them as an ally and allowing them to open an office in Russia would be an about-face that even the Kremlin's media would have a hard time pushing. Russia could probably be counted out in any regime-Rojava conflict. As a result, the Assad regime may not have the ability to take back Rojava unless Turkey for some reason sides with them.

Isn't that obvious? Otherwise, why would Assad be fighting :doh

TheDemSocialist, et al,

I'm not sure where the Kurds are?

DAESH essentially splits Syria along the Euphrates River track. The Kurds are on the Northern side of Euphrates River track; roughly on a line from the City of Tishrin on the Euphrates to al-Fadghami in the North-Eastern Syria.

(COMMENT)

Between the Damascus Forces of the Government (Assad) and the Kurdish Forces [People's Protection Units (YPG)], defending much of the Federation of Northern Syria – Rojava, there is a fairly large contingent of DAESH. The question is more about resources.

• Assuming that Damascus could drive DAESH back down the Euphrates and into Iraq (in order to get to the YPG), how fatigued would Assad's Forces be once they accomplish that? How long would it take to refit Damascus Forces?

Remember: The US is generally supportive of the YPG and Iraqi Forces. Is it in the US interest to allow DAESH to be pushed into Iraq? Is it in the US best interest to allow Damascus Forces to engage the YPG?

Most Respectfully,
R

...just more proof that one government's "militant" and "terrorist" is another government's freedom fighter.

(yawn)

PS...the Russians will soon find the STEPPED IN IT just as have many other western nations, when they try and dabble in the cesspool of religious hate called the Middle East.

I can see their concern, though, because the pukes can march to Russia.

The killing & hate will never stop, never has, never will, and will go on forever. It is in their collective DNA to do so.

Kill off one group and three or five more grow from its carcass.

US policy should be to maintain a strong Navy and submarine fleet to keep their dumb backward asses over there and ensure they do not come over here with their alphabet armies.

Parts of the beautiful continent of Africa are the same way.
