As Trump dithers over Ukraine, Russia’s military edge weakens, officials say

Oh, looks like the Comedian went home from NATO empty-handed.

Mark Rutte, the secretary-general of NATO, said in a news conference that the alliance continued to support Ukraine “on its irreversible path to NATO membership.” But the official declaration only restated the alliance’s “enduring sovereign commitments to provide support to Ukraine, whose security contributes to ours.”

Donald 'Vladimir' Trump insisted on the above disclaimer as a condition of his attendance.

Conspired?

How did they conspire to have Yanukovich turn against the will of the people of Ukraine?

Nuland directly conspired with the oppositing to overthrow Yanukovich, who was - wait for it - THE LEGITIMATELY ELECTED PRESIDENT OF UKRAINE.

And you managed to make all that time worthless, by sucking up to Russia.

Well done, that man.

Naw, man, I got what I wanted out of it. I got my college paid for and I got the start of a career I am still doing today (Procurement and logistics).

I am not sucking up to Russia, I just don't see a good reason to prop up a petty dictatorship because they are too stupid to avoid a fight with a bigger, tougher neighbor.

And apparently, America agreed with that, since they put Trump in office.

Yes, he did. Good for him.

America needs to stop footing the bill for these clowns and getting nothing in return.

I despise almost everything else Trump is doing, but he's right on this point. The Europeans are a bunch of slackers who aren't even paying 2% of GDP for their own defense. They expect us to do it.

Time to get to the negotiating table.

Yet MAGA has no problem footing the bill for Israel - since 1967 - and even bombing a foreign country for Israel. The US started a war with Iran for the benefit of Israel.

And I'll add that Natanyahu is wanted for war crimes and is on trial in Israel for bribery, fraud, and breach of trust. As soon as he loses the PM position, the trial resumes.

And I'll add because you can't seem to see past your pro-Russia agenda.....

Ah, Nulandphobia....

Last time I checked Nuland was discussing who the US would prefer to take Yanukovich's place after he RAN AWAY..
.
That isn't a "conspiracy" to remove him.

Um, let's get real here. There's not a sliver of difference between the Republicans and Democrats on support for Israel. Any voice in either party that objects, whether it be Pat Buchanan or Ihlan Omar, is quickly suppressed.

As he should be.

Actually, she was discussing it before he resigned. This is the kind of interference in another country's internal affairs we shouldn't be doing.

I remember Fox did an interview with Putin around 2017 or so, when they asked him about Russian interference in US elections. After giving a bullshit denial, he promptly pointed out the US interferes in other country's elections all the time.

And the US discussion over an alternative president is conspiracy HOW?

There's absolutely nothing in that phone conversation that changed what the people of Ukraine wanted. The Russians were doing the same thing, the difference is that Nuland advocated for what Ukrainians wanted.

But it's ok for Russia to interfere?

I remember Fox did an interview with Putin around 2017 or so, when they asked him about Russian interference in US elections. After giving a bullshit denial, he promptly pointed out the US interferes in other country's elections all the time.

The Russians are meddling in Ukrainian affairs! LOL, the difference is Ukraine doesn't want to be annexed.

If this call is supposed to represent a conspiracy to overthrow Yanuckovych why does it explicitly mention making an outreach towards him at the end?

And the US discussion over an alternative president is conspiracy HOW?

Because the US is just supposed to sit in a corner and not attempt to shape relations with a Ukraine that says it wants to align with the West.

It's okay for Moscow to send its military into Afghanistan, but somehow it's not okay for Nuland to chat with the Maidan opposition.

And as soon as Yanukovych lost the 2015 presidential election, he was going to prison for conspiracy to commit murder and embezzlement.

Yanukovych realized this, which was why he signed the agreement with the Maidan opposition on 22 February 2014 (agreeing to snap elections in 2014).

The game was up. Yanukovych fled Ukraine to avoid prosecution. And he fled to a place -Russia- that does not extradite individuals wanted for crimes abroad.

P.S. Yanukovych did 2 stretches in prison in his earlier days for robbery and assault. Yanukovych was a career criminal and he never changed. Political corruption allowed him the illusion of wealth and propriety.

Via Zoom in Kyiv and Moscow, Yanukovych was tried and convicted of treason, and sentenced in absentia to 13 years in prison.

On the day Russian forces massively invaded Ukraine - 24 February 2022 - Yanukovych was in Belarus waiting on the 40 mile long Russian convoy heading south to capture Kyiv. Yanukovych would then assume control of a Russia-occupied Ukraine and act as Putin's plenipotentiary in Ukraine. A criminal and a traitor.

Guy, guy, guy, you can always find an excuse to do something, but these are NOT things Democracies do.

The US held elections during Vietnam, Korea, World War II, the Philippine War, the Civil War, and the War of 1812.

1. How does Ukraine ensure free and fair access to ballots to it's citizens living abroad as refugees and those currently living under Russian occupation?

2. How will Ukraine manage to operate the civil services necessary for vote tabulation and ballot collection given the damage done to Ukraines infrastructure and transportation network?

3. What security measures will Ukraine undertake that will be sufficient to ease the concerns of citizens reluctant to congregate in large gatherings, like voting places and rallies, given the persistent threat of Russian airstrikes and bombings?

4. How will Ukraine handle the sure-to-be mass influx of disinformation and sabotage efforts by the Russians should they hold elections?

5. How does Ukraine demonstrate effective transparency of its election process while avoiding potentially highlighting or revealing vulnerabilities and the state of its information systems?

6. How will voters be made to feel comfortable casting ballots and publicly recording their intentions in the event this information may later fall into Russian hands and be potentially used to target them by occupational forces?

If you have no answer to the above, or you don't care, then you don't really care about whether Ukraine has an election or not.
